Well, we're still getting traditionally animated FMP! next year, Code Geass R3 is in the works, also traditional. Promare has already been announced as that but I think it's gonna be later than 2018, Build Fighters is not UC.
There's still stuff being made, it's just left to Bones, Sunrise and the occasional outlier (like Actas last year or Xebec next year).
People on /m/ often cite costs but people on /m/ are a bunch of extreme retards.
You can absolutely make traditional mecha anime today and it will cost you about as much as the CGI one. The problem is solely in composing the team for it since these things require quite a few expert positions and Sunrise/Bones simply suck up these people like a vacuum cleaner, thus denying other studios from having enough of them free (not making the latest Gundam AC at the time) to be called in on the projects, it's as simple as that.

No offense to Obari but he's an animator, not a manager. He complained about not having the budget to do stuff properly in full feature 90s OVAs.
The thing is, not every single shot has to be done to a perfect technical standard by the top 1% of the animation talent in Japan.
CG is only cheap when you let it be sloppy. You can bet your ass the people at Khara burned through more than several times the whole budget fro GBF when making a single of the CGI Evangelion movies. Guess what, 2D animation is also much cheaper when allowed to be sloppy/done by newbies.

Dude. He's amazing, but he's not someone who'd ever touch QUALITY the likes of original 0079.
You have absolutely piss-poor studios making 2D mecha without much issue. Obari is amazing but his quality comes at a price. He himself is not a person to ever accept anything else and that's why to him, 2D is more expensive. 3D done properly is also just as expensive. Hiring Khara to do the job all in CG would cost about as much as Obari, if not even more so. But it would also look the part.
