Hunter x Hunter

How can Togashi make me care so much for jobbers like Vincent and Theta but Oda cant

Togashi knows that if you want people to give a fuck about your characters they can't ALL look like disgusting looney toons rejects.

Because they feel like characters and not like some stupid cardoard cutouts.

Togashi plays more with the features of the face. A lot of artists kind of just settle for just a few different types or noses, eyes, jaws, headshapes, etc. and just mix and match them but togashi works with a wider range.

He also isn't afraid to make characters ugly, even if they are on the protagonists side. This way you're kept on your toes as a reader, especially in a story arc like this. You don't know who will help kurapika and who will be an enemy. You care about the jobbers because they could potentially be big players in this story.

Oda does the same and to an even greater extent, what the fuck are you talking about

I have seen at least 6 namis

This, I like OP's goofy secondary character designs and their quirks, but past some point they feel more like collections of quirks than people.

so can they see the current king's nen beast?

WTF is his actual name? Is it Babimyna or Bhavimaina? Is he Indians or something?

Togashi needs to go monthly.

Who's with me

Would be for the best honestly, he only does 10ish chapters a year. I guess the higher ups want him to stay though.

Have you heard of the bombers?

If I were Togashi I'd prefer my current deal. He has to work like most mangaka for a few months, but gets the rest of the year off. Monthly means a deadline hanging over your head the whole year.

ba-bi-ma-i-na
So Viz is most correct. It COULD be a "v" sound since the only way to render that in Japanese is with a "b" sound but until Togashi or his staff romanizes Babi's name on their own, there's no reason to think it's a "v" instead of "b"

I don't know how I feel about these characters

They're interesting but in the end they just feel like detours in getting to the Dark Continent and seeing Gon's grandma

Would I like this arc more if I accept Togashi will likely be dead before they get off the boat?

Oda has more variety in faces and body types(excluding women) but togashi does it without going into cartoony and unrealistic proportions.

Probably not. I actually like this arc, and I'd have no problems with it if I wasn't worried about Togashi dying and HxH ending in the middle of a transitional arc, most likely on a cliffhanger.

Taking bets, how will Gon get his nen back?

He swallows a bite of Hisoka's nen gum.

Unironically this.
I never thought I would give a fuck about Babi, Theta or Bill. Heck if it were your average generic manga, Ooito would be just a shitty and useless damsel in distress. However her character has been fleshed out and she's like a real heroine in this arc.

I would be incredibly excited with where this arc is going if the problem of Togashi's mortality wasn't hanging over our heads.

togashi is only 51 why does everyone act like he's on his deathbed.

Why would he? He have a stupid nostalgic fandom that tolerates his behaviour meanwhile doing nothing and still getting paid.

Because supposedly his back pain is debilitating to the point where he can't even move his body an inch. That's not a sign of man who is going to live to be a hundred.

No he deserves to be nenless and written out of the story for murdering Pitou.

11 chapters a year for 20 years is only 220 chapters. The chimera ant arc alone was 130 chapters. The dark continent arc would definitely be longer than it, and it hasn't even started yet - we're still in the opening stages of the Kakin succession arc.

He's not necessarily going to die, but he's probably gonna retire.

>The dark continent arc would definitely be longer than it
asspull estimations, user is a hack writer

One piece is a different flavor compared to hxh user.....

It's not his decision. He doesn't own hxh 100% and shonen jump doesn't do monthly.

Alright lads, you get to pick the following after the Kurpika's eternal hiatus

>character who gets an arc dedicated to themselves
and
>the climatic endgame fight

Why do people keep saying dark continent arc? It's definitely gonna be like the grand line or new world of hxh. Wayyyy too many plot points for it to be one arc

There is no established goal for the DC arc outside of "exploration" while there was a very clear cut goal for chimera ant

I just want gons arc. It's gonna be the chapter black of hxh

Gyro arc will be never be made, Togashit will just give up after the DC

Post things that would have already happened if the hiatus never existed

I'll start with an easy one

Gon vs hisoka

How is Theta a jobber? She didn't job.

Leorio finally gets his own arc. Climatic endgame fight is Ging, Hisoka, Leorio, and Morel vs some world ending calamity making its way to lake mobius to kill all humans.

Worry not, Togashit will have Maryging Freecsue take on the final boss of hxh on his own without breaking a sweat

Togashi should teach the author of The Promised Neverland.

She was a nen user who is scared of the princes nen beast. She passed the hunter exam which imploes she's physically fit and knows enough about nen to probably have an ability. Yet she was scared of the rape horse. If she just stopped and think she could realize that tse is the one with a disadvantage but her fear holds her back. This fear then establishes the awe and hype of tse and the rapehorse. Everything is leading up to her jobbing.

Gon vs Hisoka already happened.

Dude you should check out Naruto Shippuden! I think you'll dig it. We discuss new episodes every week on the subreddit, soooo see you later?

The actual fight where gon finally defeats him

Gon won't stand a chance without his nen, Hisoka isn't interested in broken toys.

He'll get a Nen beast.

O

Once gons fruits ripen again, hisoka will be there to harvest them

Gon does not give a single shit about Hisoka

I think most hunters haven't dealt with nen beasts before, and besides if she disobeyed tse rapehorse would kill her.

MY

Raizen aka Don Freecss

REDDIT

So what kind of nen was Gon using when he transformed? Transmutation? Manipulation?

This is gonna sound like a youtube comment, but it's because Togashi genuinely understands human nature

It's the other way around. Once gon gets his nen back and eventually become stronger than his CA self hisoka will want him. What is gon gonna say? "no hisoka I don't really want to fight you" hisoka bothered the ever living piss out of chrollo for a fucking match

Enhancement probably

Enhancement.

>inb4 too complex for enhacers

Phinks showed us that enhancement techniques can have rules and restrictions applied to them

Enhancement. He enhanced his aura to the best it could possibly be.

The fruit has rotted and will never be ripe.

Never gonna happen.

What's up with all this hate on based gon? He's gonna get his nen back and train and get even stronger.
ಠ_ಠ

We try to guess the hobo's hatsu
I say he's a specialist, either that or an emitter. Being a specialist who can stop time, that would be pretty cool right?

>Because they feel like characters and not like some stupid cardoard cutouts.

Get the fuck out of here, while I'm inclined to agree because Togashi is indeed great at characterization, this shit
is BLOATED with so many secondary characters that I care so little for them. The story is progressing slowly, this set up is ridiculously huge, and now we have to wait for the Hiatus man himself to come up not with a handful of new nen abilities, but one for each of the remaining princes, most of the guards Kurapika's teaching. Nen abilities that will define these secondary future fodder instead of focusing on the central characters of the arc, like the princes themselves.

Most of these uglyass guards with little thought to character design aside their ugly faces, have very little character. For the most part, they will have one demeanor that will define their personalities.

This is turning out to be the worst exposition for any arc that I read in Hunter x Hunter. Greed Island and Chimera Ants had better exposition. No info dumps every chapter, characters are all introduced as time goes on while steadily moving the plot. And of course this is just my opinion, the exposition for those arcs were also not boring.

Team support hatsu.

Fuck off Killua go back to taking care of your trap brother

Gon was written out of the story because he'd make the other 3 irrelevant as far nen goes. Freecss are mary sues.

Pitoufags. Gon has the best development out of the main four. Only the second cutest though

Are you retarded? He probably was the weakest hunter in the extermination team

Emitter or enhancer. I'm not saying nen is genetic but alot of things point towards it.

There's no way his hatsu is that good.
He'll probably just use a bunch of hatsus he copied from other opponents because he never had the patience to create his own.

Bhxauiqmein

Dumb speedreader, start reading Greed Island all over again.

...

>freecs are mary sues

So after bashing kurapika and finally getting shut down you're attacking based gon now. Gon isn't a mary sue btw. Weaker than killua in all the arcs except for ten minutes in CA. Killua handles biskys training better than him. He is also retarded compared to his dad. Not even the physically strongest out of the 4. And kurapika could probably defeat his CA self. So you were saying?

blinky blowjob woo woo

This to be quite frank. Of all the shonen authors, I think Togashi really knows how to write real people, and not just characters in a story.

>And kurapika could probably defeat his CA self.
could he?

How do you think that fight will go? Will gon kill hisoka or just KO him?

What. Gon is estabilished as more powerful but less skilled than Killua during his training in GI and repeatedly called a monster during the dodgeball game.

man, i miss when hxh was more about interactions. i mean, i love nen and the strategies, but i'm tired of so much infodumping and rules and turns and whatever.

One Piece and Hunter x Hunter are completely different beasts in so many ways, and I'm not just talking about "quality" or something along that line. As such, they both have different strengths. Relative to battle shonen, One Piece is very simple and straightforward while Hunter x Hunter is complex and plays with expectations and genre cliches.

I feel like they are both pinnacles of battle shonen on different ends of the spectrum. As someone who appreciates though I can understand why some aspects of One Piece have grown tiresome after so many chapters, likewise I can understand the strange, unpredictable nature of Hunter x Hunter and it's story can cause interest to vary wildly from arc to arc or saga to saga.

Not that user but
Emperor time + dolphin to suck suck.

Also gons jajanken isn't that deadly

Dodge rock

Smack away paper with emperor time enhancement

Dodge scissor

Unless gon could outsmart pika for an opening he loses 99% of the time

*appreciates both

Chrollo will steal Hisoka's Hatsu to kill him, then Kurapika will steal Chrollo's Hatsu and give it to Gon with his Dolphin. Then Kurapika will die while Gon is still using the Book, which will increase the power of the Dolphin and cause Emperor Time to be transferred to Gon as well. Thus Gon will inherit superpowered versions of Emperor Time, Stealth Dolphin, Skill Hunter and Bungee Gum. This will put him on Brion's power level.

>but one for each of the remaining princes, most of the guards Kurapika's teaching
They aren't geniuses like Bateman though. As most of the guards won't be able to develop full hatsu so quickly, they'll have to rely on the basics and their guns.
Now that I think about it any emitters will be the luckiest. Emission bullets, whether pure nen or coated on normal ones, is a no brainer and should be easy to develop.

Oda is trash tier that's why One piece is always third.

Gons reflexes exceed pitous in that state. Kurapika wouldn't be able to do shit to him and chain jail is off the table

Gon couldn't stay awake and kept having the rock fall on him. Gon also can't hold his ten as long as killua could in CA bisky training. Gon surely has more aura than killua but it doesn't matter. Killua would never be hit with jajanken. In all arcs shown to us gon has always been weaker than killua.

Which CA gon we talking bout buddy?

Angry CA gon?

CA gon vs knuckle?

Gon-san?

They had advantages: both began in the 1990s, a time when the reader was more patient, so the development of the arcs was gradual. Today everything needs to be fast or the reader gives up (series like Dr. Stone are a reflex of this).

And in the case of Togashi, he already has a hit that gives him confidence to try new things. Plus: he has time to think about the stories.

And because both series already have established audiences, they don't have to worry about sales or positions.

I think it's a lot easier to write like this.

If kura could dodge ubogin gon wouldn't be anything to him

People care about that Jersey Shore reject?

>I feel like they are both pinnacles of battle shonen on different ends of the spectrum
At this point it feels kind of wrong to call One Piece a battle shonen. Oda has said there isn't really enough time to have fights anymore, and that the limit is about 1 chapter for any. Plenty of time for running around though...

Because togashi making one fight last an entire volume is acceptable
ಠ_ಠ

>yfw One Piece has no endgame climatic battle but instead Luffy has everyone from all factions talk it out and make peace.

Hisoka vs Chrollo was half a volume, unless you're referring to something else. It damn well deserved that length after being something hyped up for more than a decade.
And stop using emoticons.

It didn't deserve anything. It was a meme fight

dodging doesnt win fights tho. and again chain jail is kurapikas bread and butter. sure he can use all types of nen with emperor time but thats not enough to win a fight. i'm not saying that gon could win even though i think he could i'm saying that the fight wouldnt be as simple as your making it out to be
