Golden Boy, maybe. People shouldn't have "favorites" anyway

>People shouldn't have "favorites"
??? What why

>People shouldn't have "favorites" anyway
Dumbest shit I've read in a while.

i want to feel good as i pump my nut in her guilty cunt

Key the Metal Idol

How so? "Favorites" implies a bias, as after a while you will have watched too many worthwhile anime to be able to reliably judge one over another, and as such "favorite" will be based on some inherent emotional response instead of concrete reasoning, and thus baseless. If you say "favorite", you're really just talking about yourself, and not the anime itself. You should be able to appreciate anime and art in general, and not judge a given work by inherent perception, but rather judge a work on its own merits.

she did nothing wrong you idiot

>tfw I've watched this shit

Baoh has a special place in my heart.

...

Absolute autism

>you're really just talking about yourself
I don't see the problem here. Not everyone is able to view art through and "objective" lens, in fact art really shouldn't be viewed objectively at all.

No clue what sort of mental gymnastics youre trying to pull here but having favourites, and acknowledging that you liked A more B, does literally nothing to your ability to evaluate a product. Having a favourite doesnt mean that youre biased you fucking nigger, it simply means that you prefer something over something else, which is automatically going to happen when you consume a product, whether its fucking anime or food. Prefering one over the other also does not imply that you are unable to appreciate both. What sort of mental disability do you suffer from?

>people shouldn't have "emotions"
I think you dropped your fedora. Here it is:

(You)

>If you say "favorite", you're really just talking about yourself, and not the anime itself
Obviously. That's why you say "my favorite". People like some things more than others because it appeals to their specific tastes. I don't see how this blinds their ability to judge all other anime.

>he has favorite foods
You should be judging them on inherent quality, not your base perceptions you simpleton

Also my favorite anime.

anyone know why all the golden boy encodes are fucking garbage eye cancer?

That's not realistic at all.

...

BAOH HAS A LASER CANNON

10/10

That's right, I forcefeed myself Soylent through a gastric tube because it's objectively the best food and I don't prefer one food over another based on silly irrational notions like "taste"

>consume a product
There are two kinds of people: those that strive to appreciate art, and those that consume media for the sheer purpose of entertainment. You're the latter, you goddamn pleb. If your ideals of consumption come to play "automatically", then that's your problem, not anyone else's. Work to fix that, and stop justifying your horrid, consumerist habits.

>I don't see the problem here
>I don't see how this blinds their ability to judge
The problem is when it's given as the sole argument or statement and not backed up in any way beyond that. It's akin to such baseless statements of one's own inherent emotional response such as "It's fun", "It's boring", "I didn't like it", and so on - all baseless spew that says nothing about the work in question as much as it does the about the individual themselves. Why should I value the opinion, much more any sort of analysis or critique, of someone who believes in blanket statements such as "favorite"? I don't, but maybe you do.

The physics are sound, what are you talking about?

The problem here is that you think "evaluating a product" and "picking favourites" are connected in any form or shape. I am absolutely autistic about evaluating the shit I watch, which results in my lists having plenty of shows that I RATED HIGHER than my actual favourites. Youre just too fucking retarded to understand that difference. Quality of a show has literally nothing to do with the enjoyment youll gain from it. I can evaluate Patlabor2 and reach the conclusion that its a great movie that will receive high scores in all but character writing, but that doesnt change the fact that I didnt enjoy that exposition heavy abomination a single bit. So it will get its "high score", but I sure as hell wont say that I liked it.

So please refrain from calling me a pleb when youre unable to differentiate between two things that arent even remotely connected to eachother. Something being "objectively good" does not mean that you have to enjoy it, let alone consider your favourite.

>needing an argument to justify personal preferences
Uh what? Not everything is political, especially not art. To have a "favorite" doesn't need to be rational or even intellectual.

mom and dad please dont fight ;_;

>The problem here is that you think "evaluating a product" and "picking favourites" are connected in any form or shape
They are for people who value inherent emotional response over more concrete evaluation. Such people then claim their "favorite" is "good", and it's "good" because they "like it", and they "like it" because it's their favorite. It's the reason why so much anti-art spew is made popular, where entertainment value is deemed of utmost importance over all else.
>Quality of a show has literally nothing to do with the enjoyment youll gain from it
I think you misunderstood me, because I completely agree with this statement. As I wrote above, my arguments are that some will not agree, and will instead used the fact that they were, say, "bored" to dismiss the work, and thus fail to ever realize its merits.
>To have a "favorite" doesn't need to be rational or even intellectual
Which is exactly my issue. "Favorite" is akin to a thesis statement; I want to read the essay elaborating on why it's a favorite. Otherwise, such blanket statements are baseless. Anyone can claim anything as their favorite, all the while speaking nothing of the work itself.

The Cockpit is great.

Sonic the Hedgehog

LotGH

TO be honest, episode one is kind of boring, I liked the the other two episodes better

Saw a guy recently with a Kite shirt on. I told him I liked his shirt and he replied with, "Thanks, I don't know what it's from though."
It had Kite written on the damn thing.

This thread turned autistic real fast.

All because of one poster too.

>Tfw I bought this shit.

Man, episode 5 was something else. Reiko is one hell of a gal, too.

reminds me of this

Art isn't supposed to be viewed objectively. It's all about emotional connection and aesthetic affect. People connect to the work of art first and foremost emotionally.

yeah

>Which is exactly my issue. "Favorite" is akin to a thesis statement; I want to read the essay elaborating on why it's a favorite. Otherwise, such blanket statements are baseless. Anyone can claim anything as their favorite, all the while speaking nothing of the work itself.

This is my position but I wouldn't say people shouldn't have favorites and even lacking the details I find it valuable for an anonymous to point to an anime and say that it's their favorite / the best anime ever / means a lot to them.

I recognize it's not that great but I enjoy it a lot.

FLCL
Angel's Egg
Gosenzo-sama Banbanzai
Tenamonya Voyagers
War in the Pocket
The Hakkenden

Probably those are my favourites, with FLCL being extra special.

No you're quite right, despite all this criticism. But your kind of thinking is quite cold, and that's not necessarily a good thing...

I love cheesy 80s mecha OVAs with high production values.

Ah, Golden Boy, this anime is the "soul" of the nineties for me along with its amazing old school cel animation, proper portrayal of fashion and technology, cities and Japanese atmosphere overall. Not to mention one of the best drawn female characters, amazingly inspirational MC, my boy Kintaro, and over-the-top perverted humour. I guess I can even call it my favourite anime. My golden boy, he brings me joy.

My favorite will always be the most dangerous OVA series.

this one

>high production values
And Highcut, my user of great taste.

So basically you're saying art should not be enjoyable or enjoyed in any form and consuming it should be done as rationally as if you were analyzing scientific theory.

>art should be judged on concrete reasoning, not by emotional response
Anybody who is moved by anything is fucking retarded, prove me wrong

the mistake you are making is thinking that it is worth my time to explain to some random fuck why something is my favorite. hell, you aren't even worth pushing the shift key over when typing to properly punctuate my sentences.

This one was so fucking good! Cool atmosphere, Knight sabers - total badasses, and amazing soundtrack

People like you should really stick to literature and philosophy, judging even the most sophisticated of Chinese cartoons in this manner makes absolutely no sense.

BGC is one of the best and truly representative of the OVA boom. Glad you enjoyed it, user.

>over-the-top perverted humour
It isn't very subtle I guess.

My gateway anime back when I saw it on Sci Fi.

got the DVD recently. Still a mostly pretty solid sci fi series and Iria is my forever waifu

It was truly a pleasure to watch.

Nice, on ep 4 myself

I just got around to watching Megazone 23, second episode was great, the rest was OK.

Parasite Dolls

I want one of this.

>gif

...

>those that strive to appreciate art
I think if anyone's not appreciating art here, its you. All you care about is some sort of standard of quality that you've decided is the only way to judge a show's merits, and are completely discounting the emotional response something might cause in a person. The very definition of art is something that elicits an emotional response out of a person, saying you want to appreciate art but don't think that feelings should be used to judge it is just plain wrong.
Assuming you're the same user who started this whole comment thread, if you're just some other user well then don't I feel silly

Why did the fuck the long hair dude? She was way too cute for this ova.

I'm pretty sure it was rape

...

The one in the first like 10 minutes was definitely voluntary.

uh you obviously didn't pay attention to her character the entire time, especially when you find out about her past/whatever

She stays close to Akai to get revenge. He murdered her parents after all.
The plot isn't even complicated or anything, how can you not get it ?

She doesn't enjoy it but she does consent technically.
