This subreddit has been accused by mainstream media outlets of hosting conspiracy theories and content that is racist, misogynistic, antisemitic, or white supremacist. FiveThirtyEight referred to it as a "safe-harbor" where racists, white nationalists, and white supremacists press their views. According to The Economist, "few corners of the internet are fouler", and its members "spew conspiracy theories, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism".

Can someone explain the popularity of Reddit? (v Sup Forums)
When I've looked at it the formatting seems awful and the threads mostly dead (not the Trump board specifically, any time I've followed a link through to Reddit). I gather it's VIIIchan-like in that mods 'own' the boards and it's heavily moderated too? Plus needing to sign up.
Why does anyone want any of that?
