Why should I join the military and risk my life when some other schmuck will do it for me? I think these days the military is just poor rural guys with no other options anyway.

The experience. There isn't much that comes to service training, or even combat, lets you see things you wouldn't if you lived in comfort all your life.

It is actually a good option to do it during peace time. It lets you experience something similar to combat to let you know if you should continue service after your time expires or not. It also gets you in the best shape of your life.

Also the US rarely sends troops to Israel. If anything we have moved away from Israel centric deployments. We don't have hardly any troops in the middle east like we used to, only some scattered about in military bases that have existed for a long time

If you have debt, then there are plenty of repayment opportunities when you enlist, I don't remember but I think you can get up to 80k repayment over the course of your 4 year service
