Best movie or best movie?

Best movie or best movie?

Absolute best.

Personally i think its the most boring.

It's pretty great but I like Spirited Away and Mononoke more when it comes to Miyazaki

Yeah I finally rewatched it after like 20 years and it was a lot less exciting than I remembered.

Spirited Away is better but it's still very good

The Japanese have a strange relationship with Kiki.

I went to the red light district in Osaka, and saw at least two young girls for sale who were dressed as Kiki.

comfy but Porco is Miyazaki's best movie

This. Nice taste user. It also has the best Ghibli girl of all time.

So why did Kiki lose her magic?

...

The point isn't to be exciting, it's to be comfy and enjoyable.

>best ghibli girl
>little more than a trophy that two men are fighting over for the entire movie
She's one of the weakest Ghibli females. Even Sheeta, another female character in a similar position, was a much better character since she at least had some individuality.

Anons with excellent opinions.

Best by a solid stretch.

I feel pretty happy with how my life has been, is now, and is probably going to be. But I would definitely trade it in to be a young witch, out on my own and coming of age in a mid-century coastal European city.

Go back to Tumblr you fucking insincere snowflake, women don't have to be "independent" or "strong" to be good, appreciable characters.

Stressing out over how to manage life (in general) and about her responsibilities, thus losing confidence within herself, and all while still being thirteen.

It's actually pretty relatable, which is why it's such a good film.

>women don't have to be "independent" or "strong" to be good, appreciable characters.
They do when they're Ghibli women

Apparently not, since she's a Ghibli woman and you're complaining about how weak she is

miyazaki movies are so over rated. Beautiful, but over rated

The town was based on this place in sweden

She's a poorly developed character in one of Miyazaki's weakest movies. Don't know what to tell you.

Kiki's,Porco, and Princess Mononoke are my top 3 Ghibli movies, and in not any particular order.

If you ask me, Spirited Away seems a bit overrated

But they do need to have their own goals and motivations. That goes for all characters, men and women. Using the word Tumblr doesn't change that.

I should have realized you were baiting earlier on. Have a good one.

When I first watched Spirited Away I was in agreement that it's overrated. Upon a second viewing I was completely blown away by it and was captivated up until the resolution where it fizzled out a bit.

Beat it, Tombo

...

>miyazaki movies are so over rated.
The only one that's really overrated by people is Howl's Moving Castle. The rest of them deserve their praise for the most part, imo.

Why does Sup Forums have to have such shit taste?

the bulk of the population over age 16 left years ago

What the fuck, she literally designs airplanes? Probably the most independant ghibli girl there is, considering the context of her "time". w/o all that magical bullshit,

>whole third act of the movie revolves around who "wins" her
>most independent ghibli girl there is
Retard

It's been more than a few years, but weren't they fighting to see who'd get to have her build airplanes for them?

No you're retarded for not understanding her entire character in the first place.
The fact that you think she wanted to be apart of that "duel" just goes to show how you didn't pay attention to the film at all.

I think tortoro is a bit overrated and spirited away for obvious reasons

I specifically remember them making a point about how it was rare for her to be 1. designing airplanes and 2. being a pilot herself
Not to mention she was genki and cute as hell, but those are just extra layers that add onto her great character.

...

Sounds like the American is just forcing himself on her. The fight itself was for something else
>bd
fuck I need to rewatch this shit

yeah and why do you think he wanted to marry her in the first place? because she was unlike any other women he had met

stop trying to put her into this dumb narrative already, she's 10/10 character, and would be my #1 if nausicaa didn't exist

If she's a capable pilot then why doesn't she just fight for her own independence instead of letting Porco do it?

memezaki is a hack who cannot write characters at all

pretty sure porco was already rivals with that dude

Yeah, and she gets thrown into the mix of it just because. It's already a compelling revenge tale without Fio being a "reward" for the American. Fio was a fine character when she's introduced to the audience but she devolves into little more than a trophy/reward for Porco and his rival by the end of the movie. Even then, when she is happy that Porco wins and she gets to build planes for him, Porco sends her away and doesn't let her do what she wants.

not to mention no Laputa. That movie was my first anime love.

I didn't like Laputa, but had I watched it as a kid, it would've probably been great.

Nausicaa is great but I think Mononoke did everything Nausicaa did and did it better

Mononoke did everything Nausicaa did, with a big sheen of post-Spirited Away budget, a lot less heart, and a dumber plot.

Nausicaa was a masterpiece, and I still tear up thinking of that scene when she saved that Ohm baby. Mononoke on the other hand wasted too much time on the romance, and didn't make me really feel for the characters.

Getting the US special box set of the manga ruined most my enjoyment of the movie. It's such a larger, darker story with more complex characters.

I'd love a big-budget adaptation of the entire Nausicaa manga. I wonder how the moviefags would react to their waifu genociding the true human race.

they forgot Nausica! She's not Ghibli but still

It's one of the few Ghibli movies that was applicable to my own life, it will ALWAYS be my favorite.

I like the ending to Spirited Away because it leaves you wanting more, like a lot more and at the same time you know your not going to get it because that's the whole point

>Princess Mononoke release date: 12 July 1997
>Spirited Away release date: 20 July 2001
Please check your facts if you're going to pretend to know what you're talking about

>this place in sweden

Oh shit, kiki is getting raped by now.

I wish I had seen Porco Rosso as a kid (I'm old enough, I could have.) Back then I was obsessed with historical airplanes and it would have been the greatest thing in the world to me. My favorite TV show around that age was Tale Spin.

No

the guy ruins it

My personal favorite

it's comfy

>not "Only Yesterday"
You have to go back

You're a witch?

No, that's Only Yesterday.

I don't know if it's objectively the best movie, but it resonates with me the most so it's my favorite Ghibli movie and one of my favorite movies in general

For me, they are the Ghibli waifu-material girls.
Only lacks Ponyo I think.

It's not the most boring but it's not fun either.

Agree

>miyazaki goes full disney: the movie
