Ancient people trapped demons in stone to duel each other. Thousands of years later some gay guy made the demons into a children's card game. Kid named Yugi occasionally gets possessed by a pharaoh from a puzzle box. He makes friends along the way and bangs a few broads.

The adventures of the best and most autistic character in anime/manga while he deals with magic bullshit constantly fucking his shit when he only wants to play his card games

Yugi is the pharoh's descendent or something, I think.

But before that can someone tell me what pot of greed does?

a loser kid gets one of those weird 3d puzzles from his crazy grampa who owns a card shop. Whoever solves the puzzle will have any wish granted to him. After years of fucking around he finally figures out how to solve it and wishes for friends. But by doing so he accidentally unleashed the 10,000 year old soul of an ancient egyptian pharoh who can take control of his body and become a badass, more confident version of Yugi who also really loves games for some reason.

The manga was originally just about a shy boy who challenges villains of the week to games, which the spirit in his puzzle can use magic to apply some sort of twist to them. Also the original version of the pharoh was kind of a badass/evil and would torture and kill people for losing his games. And also Yugi gains friends and a girlfriend along the way.

This was all pretty cool, until one day a villain of the week named Seto Kaiba appeared and with him brought the game of Monsters and Wizards (later changed to duel monsters), and then the show just became about card games.

Later on it turns out the card game itself was based on an ancient egyptian game the Pharaoh used to play called shadow games, where they could summon real life monsters from stone tablets and that's why he's so good at card games now. But most of the plot revolving around ancient egypt isn't even explained till the final arc and everything takes a back seat to card games and tournaments.

It causes you to deck out if you have two cards left in deck.

CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES RETURNS, 2025

Some kid finds an ancient African atrifact that gives him power over card games. Then they pull a spiderman and his Uncle gets killed which leads him down an adventure path to play card games.

actually you can only deck out at the start of your turn if you can't draw a card during your draw phase.

ATTACK THE MOON

>Ancient Egyptian
>African

If that happens, just don't use it...

The Pegasus arc was just relatable in that the heroes weren't trying to save a planet, country, or even a city. Just Yugi's Grampa.

That part was a welcome twist at the time.

>kid solves 3d lego pyramid puzzle
>gets possesed by dark spirit
>plays cursed punishment games
>wins
>kills opponents
>childrens card games become popular
>starts playing that from now on
>starts going on an adventure to reclaim dark spirit's memories
>trip out to ancient egypt
>dark spirit is actually a pharoah and they have to fight a super demon with card games
>ends with kid dueling the pharoah/best friend/wingman/aibou
>childrens card game becomes popular
>more anime spinoffs
>they're commercials now
>card game just keeps getting worse
>also some manga spinoffs too
>card game commercial
>duel monsters
It was an adaptation at that point.
