I've seen fascists, nationalists, and traditionalists alike advocate the Völkisch movement, but it doesn't seem as though there's a lot of information of it on the internet. If anyone here can tell me, what exactly is its purpose? What's the difference between the original Völkisch movement and the Neo-Völkisch movement? And my last question, are there any books that capture the meaning of the Völkisch movement?

Essentially, the völkisch movement is the German interpretation of a kind of conservative romanticism, associated with political populism, with a romantic vision of the people. The idea or central motive of the völkisch movement corresponds to the so-called volkstum (English folkdom), which can be translated as "culture of the nation", "ethnic folklore" or "national cultural essence", unlike volkstümlich, which is purely " populist".
The movement was not unified, but was "a storm of beliefs, fears and hopes" that were often "expressed in a sentimental way". As a feeling or sensibility, it was probably the greatest influence in the conservative revolutionary movement in Germany, an expression of nationalist conservatism in that country after World War I. However, it is a complex term. In a strict sense, it should only be used to denote groups that consider that human beings are essentially "preformed" by blood ties.

The movement combined the sentimental and patriotic interest in German folklore, local history and the idea of "returning to the land." This anti-urban populism had much in common with the work of William Morris. The dream was that of a self-sufficient life lived in a mystical relationship to the earth. These ideas were a reaction to the cultural alienation of the Industrial Revolution. Similar sentiments were expressed in the United States during the 1930s by writers grouped as Agrarians del Sur.
Richard Wagner, in his The Artwork of the Future (Das Kunstwerk der Zukunft, Leipzig 1849), had a certain influence on the origin of these ideas, anticipating some of the concepts and developments that later characterized it.
Wagner proposes that "just as man meets nature, so art is presented to man." Man, or more specifically, the Volk (the community of "men who feel a common and collective desire ») Create art to satisfy that desire. Those who do not feel are alien to the Volk and only crave a useless luxury - for Wagner, true art is what comes from the atavistic needs of the Volk. Only when this "luxury" (for which Wagner implies "under entertainment" by passing for true art - that is, Grand Opéra and the like) is abolished by the Volk, can they unite to create the "works of art of the future".

In addition, the development of the Völkisch movement sometimes combined the spiritual and esoteric aspects of folk occultism with an "idolatry of the ethnic" and a racial nationalism, which in some circles was linked to anti-Semitism. Amish communities are usually far away from each other, due to the size of the USA, but if you look at the video Chile user linked just in Saxony there are several Völkisch communities. With Europe being smaller and denser, several villages could be established in close proximity and form couples between them.

It is also worth mentioning that inbreeding is only shown to result in defects when done with very close relatives, over several generations, and only when the family has a history of genetic conditions. The farther apart couples are the more generations of healthy kids you get. Were the blood line to be pure enough you could inbreed indefinitely, like many Egyptian and Chinese dynasties seem to have some.
