She lives the fake life, a life she's been forced to live. Though she finds it hard to believe muh genuine exists, she obviously yearns for it and 8man's pursuit of it piques her interest; there's an affinity between the two, both having this cynical view of the world, only Haruno seems to live nihilistically and thrives in two-faced society while 8man still wants to believe. At worst she sees him as a fool, but at best she sees promise. (Am I wrong to think he brings out the best in her? She seems so happy, relaxed and sort of sweet around him.)

She drops in on the mains, witnessing their progress, playing the gadfly and antagonist in order to test them and prod them down the path they're determined to tread. She doesn't believe in muh genuine but as a faker, she recognizes inauthentic behavior and gets on them for it. Haruno is especially invested in Yukino who, while there is some sibling enmity, she loves and wants to see do well for herself, especially not wanting her to wind up following her big sister. Why does Haruno do things the way she does? That's how she's learned to behave: lie, manipulate, charm, subjugate, etc.; that's how you do things regardless of your intentions.

One shouldn't overstate that as he does't necessarily have feelings for her, but he is willing to give it a try. But Yui acts like it's desperately hopeless. That incongruity is meaningful. The author is deliberately playing it up.

I mean I'm a Yukinofag and gun to my head I still think she wins, but it's possible that the author is setting Yui up for an epic turn.
