From what I see, it isn't the jews per se, but certain people at the top of society that also happen to be jewish, and then use that jewish influence on jews further down the line.
The religion does genuinely seem to be quite arrogant. It seems to refuse the humanity of the non-jew traditionally, and even in slightly more modern texts (I just read the Zohar, would recommend.), there still seems to be this air of superiority that hasn't quite died yet.
This seems to lead to certain high profile jews taking actions that have negative effects on other communities, and more average jews following their example because of in-group preference. It's completely natural considering the culture, and when they encounter resistance, especially extreme resistance, it only serves to strengthen their feeling of superiority and lack of trust for the out-group.
It's really important to stress though that the vast majority of jews aren't evil. Hell, even some at the very top of the chain probably think they're doing a lot of things for the greater good of everybody. Jews simply suffer from their in-group preference when in other nations that aren't jewish. They take actions that go against the will of the majority, and use underhanded tactics in order to enact what they believe will be the best for everyone.
