Was the Iraq War for Israel?

I've heard different explanations ranging from intelligence error to Saddam oil currency, but the nation that gained most seems to be Israel (through destruction of its enemies). Redpill me.

Yes it was for Israel. However Israelis were divided on if it would be good for Israel. The Israeli leader at the time was against it. But Netanyahu was for it and went to lobby the US to do it.
It was mostly about crippling Iraq's military which had been pretty strong and also about inciting a Sunni vs Shia conflict to weaken opposition to Israel.

No. The Israelis actually thought it was a bad idea because they weren't certain if Iraq would attack Israel in retaliation for the invasion like they did previously in the Gulf War in 1991. They were also worried that Iraq, being majority Shia, would fall under the influence of Iran once Saddam was removed.

So, while Israel didn't think it was a good idea, there was nothing they could do about it and they also wanted Saddam gone, they were planning to assassinate him themselves, but one of their practice runs backfired and they were forced to abandon the mission.

When will this meme die? ISIS was founded in Iraq in 1999 by a Jordanian Salafist who wanted to overthrow the government of Jordan and eventually spread his rule over the entire Levant. They joined with al-Qaeda for a while after the American invasion then became independent again and operated as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Sham (being the region of historic Syria)
