SSJ requires strong emotion which humans have.
Also Saiyans have way stronger blood than humans so Gohan is basically full saiyan but raised as a human.
1. android 16 was the only other person at the tournament that shared his ideology, both gohan and android 16 were pacifists and didn't enjoy fighting, seeing him die, as well as the speech he gave was what spurred gohan into accepting that he had to fight.
2.gohan trained for nearly a year in the hyperbolic time chamber, goku was able to achieve super saiyan in far less time by exploiting zenkai boosts so it's unlikely that gohan wouldn't be able to do the same. with regards to the super saiyan 2 thing, they always said that gohan had hidden potential that wasn't utilised until he achieved SS2, on top of that, goku spent the majority of his time in the chamber training gohan to be able to withstand SS2 and by the both of them mastering SS1 to the extent that they could maintain the form in a powered down state allowed him to ascend to the next level

Android 16 was just a Piccolo stand in. But Toriyama and the editor knew that if Piccolo died like that then Goku would forever be Gohan's parent and be at fault for the death of someone he saw as his real father.
Also, SSJ2 was never supposed to be a new form. It was supposed to be Gohan achieving the true pinnacle of SSJ or becoming the ultimate SSJ and being the hero the world needs etc etc.
Gohan has always had this ridiculous rage power and rage form that appeared out of nowhere when he gets pissed or close to dying and scared.

SSJ1 is just a saiyajin who gets raged out and has the powerlevel and ki understanding and control(something that litterally all saiyajins suck at)to transform.
Gohan has SJ heritage to transform, deep ki understanding from a namekian,+the insane over the top temper of his superhuman mother's bloodline.

2) Toriyama wanted Gohan to become the main character of DBZ, that's why he killed off Goku 2 (two) times. However he had to bring him back, because no one likes Gohan.

He was the most popular character after Cell. Toriyama just changed his mind because he's a hack writer despite being a great storyteller.
It isn't android 16's death specifically death that pushed it was just the straw that broke the camel's back and to why he suddenly became so strong, Gohan was from the very begining of Z hyped up to have immense talent.
He was always quick to catchup hell as 5 year old with only a year training he was as strong as almost all the z-fighters safe for piccolo and Goku, so I am not sure why you are suprised he became as strong as Goku as a ssj and you say that being a half saiyan makes you weaker than a full blooded saiyan.
Goten and Trunks are way more talented than Vegeta an Goku as well, but they are weaker than them, because they don't have the same autistic need to fight and become stronger as their full blooded fathers.

I'm kinda okay with Gohan getting SS2 first, since it was what the story had been building to since the Saiyan saga.
But Vegeta should have gotten it when Cell killed Trunks. Then Gohan and Vegeta could have teamed up instead of the dumb corny father and son Kamehameha. Would have been better as a Final Kamehameha

I think being half and half was the reason he got so powerful so fast. also goku is kind of a dickhead, giving cell and bean before fighting gohan and basically endangering his son.

Built up to? Gohan hadnt done jack shit. And literally did nothing (outside help Piccolo once) in all of the android saga. There was no build and had no motivation until the cell jrs. Fact. Hero being the hero was just random.
