When does Hunter X Hunter get good?

I tried to watch the first few episodes and they seemed generic, uninteresting and childish.

When it gets really interesting that I could skip too without being too lost? Although I would sit through the less interesting episodes to get to the good ones of hunter x hunter, the anime has this childish feel that makes me feel this time could be spent watching anime I already enjoy and that don't have a childish feel like FMA, Fate Zero, Code Geuss, Monster etc.

I also want to make it clear that I am not saying I think hunter x hunter is a bad anime but instead I am saying that from what I've seen it have not attracted me yet and that's why I want a good arc that will get me interested quicker.

York Shin. Drop after that.

Didn't I see this exact same post yesterday?

Probably,.I dunno. Just ignore it, it's a meme post anyway.

And don't watch the 2011 adaptation, it's dogshit and not even canon

>hen does Hunter X Hunter get good?
when you stop watching the FoxKids -tier 2011 remake, and watch the superior 1999 version.

this.

...

You should persevere and watch it. The point is that it starts out childish and generic, then things get more serious when gon's bubble gets popped

Don't be a pleb.
Read the manga

If you don't like the start, you're not going to like any of it.

Jokes aside, in the first half shit is pretty fucking bad, it's one of the most boring things you could sit through.
When the focus starts going towards Kurapika and the Phantom Troupe that's when it starts to get kind of interesting, since fr the first time, shit is actually at stake (and you will notice people can actually die at any time, so expect the unexpected). After this arc ends, then the Greed Island arc comes along, which is kind of meh. There are really only 2 interesting fights.

Then there's the Chimera Ant arc.
I honestly believe that changing up a bit the story and introduction to the characters and making this the only arc in the series would've been fine, I believe its the only part of HxH in which you can actually say "This is kind of fucking good". Phantom Troupe is good, but it stays just good. Chimera Ant is actually great.

Its a mix of everything really. In summary: First 30-40 episodes are a fucking slog to sit through, then it gets somewhat good, then it loses a bit of quality but not as bad as the first half (its watchable and mildly entertaining), and then it gets really fucking great. After that I personally found it good but its just 14 episodes after the Chimera Ant arc.

Not true, the start is really boring and generic, and also doesn't have fights as exciting or as smart as the later parts.

I loved the exam part. The Chimera Ant arc was too drawn out and also has this part in the middle where suddenly every 10 seconds of real time get 2 minutes of narration.

Yeah, I can understand why people would not like that. I personally liked it, the narrator having a lot more prescence in the fights really added an unique touch to it. I do admit it was a little overdone at times, and I understand why people dislike it.

Also, I like that the Chimera Ant arc had significantly more character progression (even for the characters that just appear in that arc) than any other. Also, the fights were made in a smarter way and stakes were absolutely through the roof because the villains were pretty fucking overpowered. I'm not gonna say anything specific to avoid spoiling it but, even though I believe the entirety of HxH is overrated, the Chimera Ant arc I really liked.

Chimera Ant Arc is overrated trash, just watch the OVA series and then drop this shit like a wet turd.

These two posts ended the thread. Understand that 2011 is a poor adaptation, even the nips know it.

>the narrator having a lot more prescence in the fights really added an unique touch to it
>Togashit fags literally PREFER wordy exposition in their anime
Holy shit, what horrible taste you have.

It gets good when the actual exam starts in an episode or two. It no longer is good when York New is over.

It didn't translate well into the anime, it slowed everything down to a crawl and often regurgitated information already made apparent to the viewer.

Not really a Togashi fag, I believe his artsyle is dogshit and also boring, and also he is not very good at making stories that do not involve fighting (the first half of HxH really demonstrates it)
But I liked how it narrated very specific thoughts the charaters had surrounding the fight that would otherwise could be easily misunderstood if explained visually; that and also because narration explains character's feelings and actions that take about 10 seconds of real-time in the fight.
Without the narration it would otherwise seem as asspulls.
Even if asspulls ocurred, the narration at least made it seem more convincing or passable.

Yeah, it did drag the fights way too much in certain parts, gladly it picked up the pace in a few episodes.
Kind of reminds me of the first part of Josuke vs Kira in Jojo Part 4

The right side follows the manga better

A better adaptation doesn't necessarily mean its a better product

>and also he is not very good at making stories that do not involve fighting (the first half of HxH really demonstrates it)

Hmm, seeing how every arc up til now had at least one major fight in it, this critique is retarded.

I see I didn't explain myself very well.
What I meant is that, when people are not fighting, his stories do not really seem that interesting.
Part of the reason why I believe Greed Island is not that good is because most of the arc is centered around collecting cards and shit with very very minor fights (if you can even count them as fights) here and there. The whole premise did not seem that interesting, the stakes may be high but they don't really feel that way. The training before fighting the guy in the ball game (I don't remember his name) is not rally that engaging.
I mean sure its an episode that is supposed to be a build up but there are better ways to make that interesting.

>Greed Island is bad because most of the arc is centered around collecting cards which ,incidentally, is the entire point of the game.

Well, I can't help you here user.
Okay, I get

I get its the point of the game, but its pretty fucking boring nonetheless. The problem is not that he follows the concept of the game, because he does it well, but in my opinion its not a very exciting or interesting approach.

The chimera ant arc was so fucking boring. Literally even the cell versus master roshi fight was snoozefest.

Well,at that point, it pretty much is all opinion. I feel one way, you feel another.

The moment the show really clicked with me was when everyone taking the exam got told they had to hunt down each other based on number tag. I really enjoyed the fact that a little detail like that became a bigger factor than I thought and that I was feeling the same as the contestants who weren't paying attention to all the tags and was now at a disadvantage.

Is chimera ant arc a masterpiece?

Questions like that practically goad people to jump on the chance to says it sucks. Do you think it is?

go back retarded newfag

Yeah, basically, not denying it.

HxH is weird in that it tends to wildly shift gears every time a new arc starts. Sometimes an arc will be about trying to defeat a monster army, while other times you'll get thirty people on a boat spending 20+ chapters trying to figure out what everyone else thinks they're going to do so they can pretend to do it while doing something different and making their enemies think they don't know that they know. You'll almost certainly like some arcs more than others based on your taste, but which ones you like depend entirely on you.

Or you can just find entertainment in seeing what kind of crazy tonal shift the next arc holds.

Well, alright then. All things considered, its my favorite arc. By far the most ambitious thing Togashi's ever done at the time. And ,for me, it takes a re-read to really appreciate it. All the better with the corrected scans and better translation up on the Web.

I don't know user. I was hooked from chapter 1. Maybe give up.

Watch the whole thing.
HxH has massive tonal shifts, and each arc is completely different from the last.

agreed, the exam part was really fun and full of life

where the show started getting boring to me was with the Yorkshin arc. It started getting into this obnoxious vibe with the whole "avenge my peoples" and "super special secret powers" shit (coupled with long running anime generally dragging at times). Thats not to say the story itself was "bad", but it was tiring with the influx of ""cool"" characters in a plot I had no real interest in.

When the Greed Island part started and they started going over these mmo rules I lost all interest

...

the first episodes are the best,it gets downhill after that. It's like a regular shonen serie but with less fillers
