Noticed last night the whole shitstorm about Kemono Friends. Didn't cared much, but the more info appears, the more it makes me worry about how corporations can ruin the industry and creative freedom. Now, I don't know if I missed something but I understood everything like this: >dead franchise >low budget studio is asked to make a series (with obvious plans to just let it die) >they make an anime that explodes in popularity and saves said franchise >members of the staff makes more extra stuff just for fun and for the fans for free >months later Kadokawa reacts (after seeing the show is profitable again) and kicks the whole staff so they can have all the profit
I mean, i'm kinda indifferent about Kemono Friends, I thought it was just alright, but seeing a company so greedy that actually kicks out the responsible of the success is way too weird (and retarded). Does this mean that every single studio and creator has to suck the publisher's dick in order to keep their job? Just how many similar cases have been out there and we don't know?
>they can have all the profit They already had all the profit. The studio is just a contractor. They kicked Tatsuki because of disagreements and not because of profit.
Joseph Cooper
Well, it's expected but witnessing, acknowledging and talking about shit that sucks is not exactly naive. I'm glad this at least brings to light issues that people not care or became desensitized about
Owen Murphy
I think it can still be due to profit. If Kadokawa's claim is true, then it's quite jarring how they acted just now and not back then. Also Yaoyorozu is "known" for being a studio that respects creative freedom over everything else (look at minarai diva), so it's more surprising that Kadokawa NOW starts complaining about how there are disagreements when that should've been quite noticeable ever since the beginning
Cocksucking is common in the industry, I'm sure we all know. The problem is when it can lead to such an awful situation. Maybe getting a bit Sup Forums here, but it reminds me of the whole konami stuff.
Angel Reyes
A la mierda, this saturday I must buy the Luces just to check this shit.
Kevin King
...
Noah Gutierrez
How do you do, fellow weebs?
Caleb Gutierrez
so I was about to watch this shit should I do it or nah
Zachary Sanchez
Konami is shit, but wasn't Kojima a bit of a fuckup with the Phantom Pain production too?
Mason Allen
Yeah, if i recall correctly, Kojima was going full retarded with the budget. I was going more about how the company was dealing with the situation. Tatsuki kinda fucked up too when you think about it
Asher Long
So far it seems Tatsuki wasn't involved with the decision-making, the issue was Kadokawa wanting a more restrictive contract with Yaoyorozu (so no more extras like 12.1, etc.), Yaoyorozu said no to the increased restriction, and negotiations fell through.
Oliver Brown
> Comfy S2 never
Camden Gray
What I really wonder is what is going to happen to some of the VAs. I read something about some of the newcomers being associated with Yaoyorozu, and how this whole situation might remove them too from whatever Kadokawa plans to do now
Alexander James
If you like friends, why not?
Ayden Rogers
Watch it, it's fun. Just don't do it in a way that gets any money back to Kadokawa.
Jacob Barnes
3 episode rule, as always. Ep1 is a complete shitfest, you are warned. It does get better tho
Parker Jenkins
Creative freedom has never been the word of the day for animation. It's almost entirely adaptations, after all. Even KF was a pre-established franchise albeit barely. It's an extremely unique case. In the world of originals and doujin works, freedom is law. Even manga isn't that restricted, given its variety
Ryder Anderson
Do it for the director. Do it for Tatsuki.
Owen Nelson
>Even manga isn't that restricted, given its variety It kinda depends I guess. Wasn't Dragon Ball Z changed from time to time because of Toriyama's editor?
Samuel Phillips
Are you a shallow faggot that buys into series like Touhou and Kancolle? Then you'll love it.
Matthew Thompson
Why do they have four ears?
Brayden Myers
>mystery >post apocalypse >comedy >action/strategy >call to adventure >a shitfest
Nathaniel Cruz
So to sum this up:
Yaoyorozu received very little profits from Kadokawa. Yaoyorozu decided to do collabs and events to please fans and also profit. Yaoyorozu didn't get Kadokawa's approval because they would obviously reject this idea. They cut Yaoyorozu.
How can anyone blame the animation studio? Kadokawa was taking a huge chunk of profits for all the passion and hard work they did. However Yaoyorozu couldn't just simply leave Kadokawa because it'd mean they could no longer work on Kemono Friends.
Owen Howard
One for frequencies over 20Hz and the other for under 20Hz.
Noah Howard
Big magazines like WSJ seem rather restrictive because they are hit-driven. But, there are many, MANY more publications than Jump
Ian Cooper
Calm your tits, I just said episode 1. Like really, I've never seen someone defending that episode in the first watch. It's something you end appreciating with rewatches
Chase Bennett
It makes it easier for them to hear the creepy creeps creeping up on them, so they can make an escape.
Robert Young
Corporations ruin everything.
Hudson Campbell
Kadokawa has a history of shitting on anime titles under its umbrella. The first Arslan anime died a slow and painful death every OVA because kadokawa can't manage its shekels.
Oliver Parker
>liking Touhou makes you shallow despite consisting of 20 years of material from games to music to characters with lengthy histories to fanworks to manga to fananime to side games to side novels to compendiums on characters and miscellaneous facts and news article compilations
Jackson Clark
Didn't they also avoided making more Haruhi anime because the first season already did its job to promote the novels? There was also the whole Aya Hirano scandal, but yeah
Nathan Gray
I have and I'm far from alone. I was charmed from the moment they said they were going to go on a grand journey to a library. The only thing episode 1 doesn't have is an episodic focus on a pair of Friends.
Jack Rodriguez
The director fucked up, he didn't exactly leave Kadokawa many choices to deal with what he did.
Carson Cruz
the suffering wont end
Juan Nguyen
Am I the only one that liked the show from episode 1
Landon Carter
>Does this mean that every single studio and creator has to suck the publisher's dick in order to keep their job? Just how many similar cases have been out there and we don't know? Why do you think so few people in the industry are speaking up about it? Everyone knows it's an awful, greedy, shortsighted thing to do but none of them want to risk their own jobs by being associated.
Leo Gonzalez
I kinda got good vibes from the moment bossu appeared at the end. But didn't truly enjoyed the show till episode 3, mainly speaking, the scene where they have to cut grass to make a coffee mark. Before that, I wasn't putting much attention. Heck, I even remember confusing serval with jaguar.
Nolan White
>template 15
Anthony Morales
No. There sure weren't many people who were positive about it from the beginning, though.
Leo Harris
Neither did Kadokawa.
>Tell small indie company they can do whatever they want since they think it'll end as a failure >Give them 2am timeslot for icing on the cake >Give them pennies for budget >They make an astronomical hit >Company takes 95% of all your earnings >Said company now wants to pay attention and decide how the next season will be. >Leaving said company results in being banned from using the IP >Try to do collaborations to actually make money >Have to tell the big boss, who'll reject this notion
William Scott
I "liked" it from ep1. I think I loved it by ep3. I definetly loved it by ep5.
Matthew Carter
What?
Bentley Gomez
If I didn't like it from EP1 I wouldn't have kept watching it.
Jason Cook
The first ep is the weakest. It gets better after that.
Easton Russell
>Tell small indie company they can do whatever they want since they think it'll end as a failure
They didn't though.
Dylan Parker
it was allowed in their contract to do what they did, Kadokawa wanted to change the terms because they didn't like what was happening even if it was a good thing objectively. After all, still can't predict the future. More importantly, the franchise became associated with the contacter rather than the IP holders. Probably didn't like the sound of that. However, truth is if they let it be, even for one more season, they would've been able to do whatever.
KF was already a multimedia multiproject franchise. No one would've minded a bunch of projects not by Tatsuki so long as there was even one more year of letting the studio run wild. After all, they're the reason it succeeded at all and they succeeded because of the contract terms that let them do whatever they wished.
Jaxson Watson
Ok ill watch thanks anons
Jeremiah Martinez
They did.
Jaxson Walker
You know what's even worse?
iirc in a few hours more there's going to be a nicodouga live stream with the seiyuus of Kemono Friends. It's going to be hell for the people in charge to moderate the comments, I bet all my money everyone are going to spam stuff related to the incident
William Powell
>Yaoyorozu received very little profits from Kadokawa. >Yaoyorozu decided to do collabs and events to please fans and also profit. >Yaoyorozu didn't get Kadokawa's approval because they would obviously reject this idea. >They cut Yaoyorozu.
More like they did not consult with the whole committee and when Kadokawa disagreed with their direction they quit.
Liam Morales
Why do you think talk was "let's change the contract" not "breach of contract"?
Anthony Watson
>template 43
Hudson Watson
The Haruhi anime died because the author stopped writing the series and the staff had split up.
Xavier Bennett
>More like they did not consult with the whole committee and when Kadokawa disagreed with their direction they quit. >template 52
Robert Flores
Everyone has to keep their mouth shut about retarded things their boss does in EVERY industry in every country it's the way of the world
Levi Myers

Joseph Green
>More like they did not consult with the whole committee
>Oh? You want to do a collaboration with x? >Well, since this is our IP, we'll need about..90% of the earnings >I hope you understand.
Eli Allen
Haruhi got two seasons and a (really good) movie. Also three spinoff anime. Endless 8 fucked things up in the long run.
Brody Price
Congrats user, you have independently derived that socialism is good.
Jordan Price
They didn't explicitly said, but it was heavily implied.
Movie Haruhi a best
Mason Anderson
This is the problem with modern media production in general, especially in Japan. Production companies pay the bare minimum to studios that don't know any better. The studio really should have been more aggressive with Kadokawa, but it's assumed that they were too small to do anything.
Nicholas Hall
Good
Thomas Anderson
So what's going to be the next news? There's: >tweets after the board meeting >anything that arise from VA livestream >response from yao studio >response from Tatsuki, Mine >more insider reaction I know that anything new would just make it worse but it doesn't feel like there enough closure
Supposedly that's because Kadokawa told them to take Disappearance and turn it into a movie halfway through S2's production. Since Disappearance suddenly disappeared, they needed to quickly make something that could fill up all the slots that Disappearance was using.
Brody Long
>implying they won't cancel it
Samuel Moore
>Kadokawa:Here's the plan for S2..It'll be great! >Kadokawa:We'll introduce humans in episode 3, and one will fall in love with Serval >Kadokawa:Also, we're going to cut out all the scary ceruleans and danger.Kids shouldn't be exposed to that. >Kadokawa:I think we should replace Serval's VA with..a more seasoned voice actor too. Don't worry she'll be great. >Kadokawa:We also have a talented team who can do a proper 2D animation. Don't worry, you'll still be the animation director. >Tatsuki:I don't like this >Kadokawa:You either like it or never work on Kemono Friends again, choose.
Nathaniel Reed
It's all up to the fans to be honest. There are already a good bunch of them ignoring everything kadokawa and kemono friends related, but nobody knows how big of an impact is going to make on Kadokawa. At the end of the day, the only one affected is the KF Project.
>response form Mine I don't think Mine will say a word about it. As much shitstorm this is generating, he will just stick to anything to maintain the project alive, maybe in hopes of people forgetting this in the long run
Colton Jackson
Everything was doing so well just a week ago. Why must the world be like this?
Julian Smith
You said shallow, that's simply dumb as fuck
No fanservice, has crappy art, and 20 years of material. Oh yeah, gotta be shallow to like any of THAT.
Aiden Russell
One of Yoshizaki Mine's tweets said that Tatsuki's eyes gleamed when he was told that he had full creative freedom with the series even after it finished airing. Mine is the creator of the entire KF series, in case you didn't know.
Logan Perez
There is a reason why Kyoani left and decided to made their own IP even when most of them suck. They didn't want to be kadokawa fuccbois
Ian Ortiz
>caring about online petitions ever The only petitions that ever work are those on paper with actual signature. Like the one in my country that has triggered the organisation of a referendum to constitutionally ban gay marriage.
Liam Walker
>maybe in hopes of people forgetting this in the long run Yeah right.
Ian Wilson
Why didn't they just use one of the later novels?
Elijah Harris
> but nobody knows how big of an impact is going to make on Kadokawa What, someone's plan is to bankrupt Kadokawa and then buy KF?
Or how is that even going to help. If they realize they alienated all the fans over KF, that probably just leads to everything KF related getting shelved as "not likely to be profitable".
Michael Nguyen
It's worse than that. It was Tatsuki/Yaoyorozu that had the idea to make it all ages and post apocalyptic. They saved the franchise and made it a hit. Now Kadokawa wanted to reboot it as a mainstream kids show and forget the charm and mystery of s1. They wanted to just tell tatsuki what to animate and remove everything that made it a hit in the first place.
Gavin Butler
Kadokawa will make a season 2, but in my mind Kemono Friends only ever had one season. Kaban and Serval went off to have more adventures and lived happily ever after.
Camden Reyes
Stay mad, retard. Touhou has like 20 years already and still going strong.
It kinda sucks that KF is literally dead at this point, no matter how hard Kadokawa wants to transform it. Yeah, it wouldn't be as huge as Touhou, Vocaloid or Idolmaster, but it would've been near.
Jayden Morgan
DAMN YOU KADOKAWA
Charles Martin
Listen mate, showing that a bunch of people give a shit in an industry kept alive by those that give a shit can't hurt. I don't get why you operate on self fulfilling prophecy rather than trying for the hell of it. Petition, complain, boycott
Chase Phillips
Fennec, Racoon and one of the penguins are most likely gone, they work for Just Productions, which is Yaoyorozu's parent company. They might continue for a short time doing the talk shows and stuff, but they wont be in a S2 if it ever happens.
Owen Taylor
Mine's not going to say anything because Kadokawa has him caught by the balls. Both of his projects, Keroro and KF, are heavily involved with Kadokawa.
Bentley Bennett
It's going back up, how does this make you feel?
Eli Cook
Unsurprised.
Chase Sullivan
Because some people are chronically pessimistic. Best to let the real fans get things done.
Daniel Sullivan
The whole situation screams of Powerpuff Girls 2016. Yes, it's still the same franchise, but with different staff and a different view of the show. At the end it's going to be a whole different thing
It feels like nothing. We all know it was a fluke. Market works like that
Jason Richardson
Dead cat bounce.
William Ross
Doesn't. I never expected any stock issues
Jayden Gray
Takes too much time to script and direct it within the deadline, and have it come out with quality.
I mean, they were expecting Disappearance to be part of that season, and then they'd have to add another half season of work onto what they were already doing if they adapted more content.
Asher Sanders
Doesn't change that their stock has been steadily sliding for years and they just managed to slaughter another goose laying golden eggs for little discernible reason
Landon Ortiz
>>Well, since this is our IP, we'll need about..90% of the earnings
This is about investment though. So no matter how fucking entitled you think you are, if you are not the primary investor then you don't have no business taking the wheel.
If Yaoyorozu can't take it then they should go down KyoAni or Gonzo's route.
Ryder Ross
WHY IS THIS THE TIMELINE
HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET A FUCKING GOLDEN GOOSE FOR NEXT TO NOTHING
Jeremiah Reyes
for the sake of the 3d waifus, THEY FUCKING SHOULD!
