The 90s anime is one of the best modern fairytale series. It's so fucking good.

...

Heard they're doing a new series with original stories by Hollywood writers. Yeah...
Just rewatched the original series and it's even more comfy with childhood nostalgia.

here in finland we fucking worship moomin every house here have cups with moomin characters on them

Can confirm, have a decent collection of them

>Hollywood writers

So... Car chases and explosions?

Another Finn here. I make sure to spread love of Moomins all over the world, so whenever I travel I pack around ten Moomin mugs and hand them to different people I meet.

Watched this a few years ago, It's good but it isn't all translated and my Moonspeak isn't good enough to finish it yet.

beautiful, beautiful ;_;

Love it, but I always thought Snufkin was kind of an asshole in the anime. But that must've just been the awkward monotone Finnish voice acting.

I don't have a moomin cup.

post moomin fanart

It's not actually Japanese, just the show

Unironically one of the best anime soundtracks. Feels like a 90s JRPG soundtrack.

youtube.com/watch?v=Twc4WSdA-Zk

This is all I've got

I am sorry

don't be, it's perfect

...

...

Not even a self-made one? What a sad existence you must lead.

This show's soundtrack probably had a bigger impact on me as a person than I even realize.

youtube.com/watch?v=_NU_0OH9xzo

Speaking of, these soundtrack releases all seem so incomplete. There's multiple tracks I'm thinking of right now that I just can't find on the few downloaded albums I have.

Voomin and Little My.

...

I love scenic stuff like this.

In the last moomin thread some user said he was gonna translate the finnish subs into english.

...

I'm the horrible heretic and isänmaanpetturi who preferred Alfred J. Kwak as a kid.

I really want to watch the late 60s series, but alas no subs. What other parts of the series are subbed and recommended? I usually only hear about the original.

I've definitely watched it as a kid but I remember nothing about it.

Fuck, I now feel like watching Moomin again. How many episodes are there anyway ?

The new writers are british. They've worked on shows like Peter Rabbit, Danger Mouse, and Shaun the Sheep.

...

It's the 90s series that is regarded as a classic. Tove Jansson hated those 60s and 70s Japanese adaptations.

104 + movie

Oh boy, I hope it contains at least one instance of Säkkijärven Polkka

Moomin is the best thing that came out of Finland (besides Spurdo).

Why's that? Looking at the staff list I see Masaaki Osumi (Lupin III) directed, and Yasuo Otsuka (god amongst animators) did designs and sakkan. I've heard really good things from people with respectable taste in animation, too

...

The creator didn't like it because it wasn't very close to the source material. Moomin acted like a cunt in it and used guns and shit. Miyazaki worked on it too and didn't like it for the same reason.

Fair thing to dislike, but I'd want to see it for myself you know? Even if only as a piece of history, seems like the start to the whole literary genre that gave way to WMT.

Jansson's sketch art is bretty fucking spoopy

>seems like the start to the whole literary genre that gave way to WMT.

Apparently Dororo counts as the first entry in the WMT series but Moomin was the first story they adapted that wasn't from Japan.

Yeah that's what I meant. Staff crossover as well.

As a seventeen year old girl, Tove Jansson posed naked as a model for her father, the sculptor Viktor Jansson. Several of the statues based on her can be found all over Helsinki.

>At the ladies' croquis evening at the Lallukka Artists' Home in 1937, Tove described her experience of being a nude model: 'I adopted the pose of Papa's Convolvulus. A step forward, one raises one's arms a little. A very small, lingering step, the tips of one's toes turned slightly inwards, a parrying fumbling movement with one's hands - it's supposed to depict awakening, or youth. Papa said.'

Gondola was created by an Italian.

...

doujinshi where

Wasnt that show propaganda?

How many mugs do you own?

a mere eight cups.

Their designs are pretty much perfect.

10/10 moe

Oh in the original japanese version he's the nicest guy ever and has such a handsome and gentle voice.

This show seems comfy
Where should I start?
60's ,70's or 90's series?

All of them.

Was this the only time he lost his patience?

90s the rest isnt subbed and not even worth it imo

Vem kommer i vår ruta här?
Jovisst, det mumintrollet är
Med sammetsnos och liten svans
Det bästa troll som nånsin fanns
Det är ju mumin!

The 90's, but only 26 episodes out of a 108 have been subbed.

I never found the stuff in movies to be as spooky as the TV show. But the scariest bit for me was easily the very first fucking episode when Moomin is turned into a monster and nobody recognizes him anymore.
Sure, Groke was scary too, but whenever I was watching recordings of the episodes and that bit came up, I left the room until it was over. With Groke I only hid, but still kept watching.

Fug :DDDD

2 years later, still no sub. No love for moomin then.

At least they are dubbed?

It's too late to watch the moomins? I've never seen any film or episode or read any book. I don't think it was a thing in my country.

German dub is allright, if you can stomach the opening

There is an english dub for the first 52 episodes.

If you're still into comfy anime like Kiki's delivery Service then no, it's not too late.

...

Väärä kieli vitun homo

What do you do about the rest of the episodes?

COMFY

Learn Japanese or Finnish.

There is also the Swe**ish dub

Not for the last 26 episodes.

She's not a predator, she's just lonely.

Honestly that looks less intentional and more due to the way film was copied and sent overseas.

Comfy as fuck, imagine shitposting on Sup Forums from there.

The Finnish monotone is perfect. Long as someone here talks like that, they're being friendly. Otherwise they're trying to sell you something or are being too emotional.
Suits the characters perfectly. Monotone, comfy and calm.

That's exactly what happened.
It was also spooky.

so its gonna bee some BBC cuck fetishism

It's photoshopped

>Stove in the corner
>Snow fluttering down outside
>Pipe lit, puffing away and a fresh pot of coffee.

Yeah, no shit.

Just saying. Someone believed it was real last time I saw it posted.

>Mfw I live in place like that
>Also hate winter and cold
I'm jealous of you guys living somewhere where it doesn't snow 1/3 of the year. It's suffering living in Northern spudroland

>he hates winter and cold
But why? Winter is the comfiest time of the year

not that user but I hate winter too.
I'll agree its comfy and beautiful but I vastly prefer being outside in the summer heat instead of freezing like a popsicle.

cold weather? awesome, I hate it when it gets too hot in summer
landscape white from snow? awesome
perpetual darkness? ffffffffffuck I hate the polar night, I need my sunshine to feel alive

...

...

I agree on the winter landscape but disagree with your other two statements. Summer is the shit and the night is way nicer than the sun.
I would fucking love to be able to see a proper polar night.
My countries weather pretty much sucks all year.

...

...

...

Don't get me wrong, in general I love nighttime and think it's super beautiful and all that.
But the polar night... when a day is as dark as the night for 90% of its duration, maybe showing a small glimmer of brightness around midday, for several months straight, it starts really getting to you on a physical level. You're less alert, more tired and irritable. Kaamosmasennus, depressio hiemalis, is a real thing.

...

Oh, thank god. I'd love to watch this but I don't know enough moon to understand without subs.

I'm currently watching Jigoku Sensei Nube and the subs are noticeably off. I know just enough Japanese words to figure out most of the mix ups but without a base to at least translate the more complicated words I'm lost.

>>>/scandinavia/

>Sprudoland
>Scandinavian
Hmmm

I wonder if Miyazaki still wants to adapt Pippi. He'd probably be able to now since his son was allowed to do Ronja.

Back in the day, I didn't know it was a Japanese animes.

My favorite series by far
