So did alita jump the shark or did it just get too patrician for my pleb tastes?
ALITA / GUNM thread
I just read the first part the other week, thought it was a masterpiece. I've heard the subsequent parts are more battle-heavy, are they still worth reading?
Last Order is 50 percent masterpiece, 50 percent pure shit.
Mars Chronicle is 50% masterpiece and 50% suffering.
Yes but there's a part in Last Order with vampire backstory. Just skip it. Nothing important comes from it and it's boring as hell. You're welcome
Pissed me off when I was still following the scanlations.
I guess marathoning it wouldn't be too bad for him?
It's world building after all.
The Z.O.T.T was way too fucking long.
Didn't the zott technically run longer than the original alita manga?
Almost 10 years of cyber naruto in space.
even marathoning, it's boring as hell and doesn't really have any effect on the story. If you really like worldbuilding then I guess you could like it but the whole thing is far in the past that none of it is still relevant
It's still a pretty great series, and in general probably one of the best in the cyberpunk genre. Not to mention Alita (Yoko) is literally one of the best female protagonists to date. Gotta love the atmosphere and corruption of the Scrapyard & Tiffares or whatever it was called.
I recently re-read mars chronicles up to the newest chapter and there was tons of stuff I missed while doing it monthly like the origin of alita's birth casually introduced in a panel.
She's the tumor growing on princess kagura's right tit
Is there a guide with what chapters to skip?
Last order started so amazing and then got dragged into battle shonen hell with nonsensical flashbacks constantly.
Alita did jump the shark during Last Order, when it turned into a Dragonball Z season.
>Didn't the zott technically run longer than the original alita manga?
Nothing technical about it, that shitty tournament arc was almost twice the length of the entire original manga.
Like, the whole Motorball arc was just two tankoubons. Think about it. ZOTT was like seventeen.
Jesus, is there any information what drove kishiro to waste time like that?
At least mars chronicle is really compelling again, albeit really fucking dark, even for alita standards.
I heard something to the tune of "editor/publisher made him do it". Just a rumor, nothing more substantial. They had that idiotic contest where readers were allowed to send him character designs for the tournament and he tried to fit all of them in, not as background elements as they should have been but full length fights. That's why there are all those fat clowns and dick-shaped giant robots.
>reading Alita after the first series
Mars Chronicle is really good.
It drops the whole battle shonen thing and goes full scifi
damn really? I'll have to check it out
the last thing I remember about this series was some dumb vampire kung-fu shit
When shitting on last order people always forget how amazing the jim roscoe arc was.
Classic alita shit.
That was Last Order, the sequel after that "Mars Chronicle" goes over Alita's past and hits dark ass sci fi elements that the first 2 didn't even touch. Gets a little ""edgy"" but it's pretty good shit.
Mars Chronicle is really good, also goes into really dark places. More suffering than all the previous alitas combined.
Most alita fans (including me) just dropped the series during the shitty dbz tournament arc in last order but mars chronicle is worth picking it up again.
>the first Battle Angel Alita series is getting a 400-page hardcover English reprint without flipped page shit, new translation without SFX and probably some color pages
Sweet, Gunnm was the first manga I've ever read after picking it from the library in the mature section, but they never had all the volumes
BAA is 9/10 atleast
Last Order starts good, like 4 good/decent volumes of tons of world building and new characters, then the ZOTT tournament just goes on and fucking ON. They did not need to show all the fights, especially like the miniarc stuff of the guy who was/thought he was god and the indian rope trick.
Mars is whatever right now
Oh shit.
What publisher?
Didn't Nier:Automata basically copy a lot of elements from alita and got praised for it as "groundbreaking"?
The Vampire thing while kinda dumb was interesting.
The tournament arc just lasted way too long.
Though the final fight battle is pretty good regardless, and so is Alita regenerating.
Like if you just want the good parts, just skip most of the fighting because it's pointless (unless you really like Sechs) and read Mubadi's backstory part, the battle against his former ally (hacker dude), and the ending. Also any part where Alita gets introspective ,basically whenever she's alone those are good in general and will inform you of her character
Also the arc where Tirafes is resolved is like okay.
Not really. For one on just the baseline humans/organic life isn't in the minority. The robots in Neir never question if they're lesser or greater beings based on having mechanical parts/being fully mechanical, which is important since that's was huge part thematically Alita's journey in parts 1 and 2.
I'm genuinely not even sure where that comparison would come from other than sexy robot waifu's. There isn't even political intrigue in Nier.
>movie is comming out in 2018
>is already in post production
This could either be the first anime KINO or complete and utter shit.
I'm torn, on one side it's james cameron producing it on the other side it's rodriguez directing it.
