Is alita a complete abnormality in the manga genre? It's pretty unkown in japan but still has a niche audience, it's running for almost 30 years now and it's insanely popular in the west, though rather with a non imageboard going audience and more like with normal comic fans. The internet fandom for the manga is tiny yet it has a huge international fanbase.
>internet fandom for the manga is tiny >it has a huge international fanbase What the fuck are you even on about
Ayden Mitchell
He's really got his shit together art and storyboard wise ever since he began Mars Chronicle. I enjoy his work so damn much.
Blake Evans
There's only one proper forum dedicated to the manga and it has like 20 regular posters and threads on Sup Forums happen like once a year. Meanwhile the physical copies of the manga are bestsellers in the west.
Jeremiah Clark
Mars Chronicle is really up there with the original, while more than half of last order is just "meh". I'm re-reading LO at the moment and its really hit and miss. The entire ZOTT stuff is so fucking shit, but everything else is still good. So glad mars chronicle has none of the tournament bullshit and is straight up scifi again.
Thomas James
>The internet fandom for the manga is tiny yet it has a huge international fanbase.
Adam Murphy
Agree. Thanks to there being a lot of worldbuilding going on in the background I soldiered through the damn tourney ark. Chronicle started slow too but now with this treasure hunt and backstory reveals it's building up to be even better than the original Zalem stories. If everything works out we might get the space war in a couple of years.
Landon Harris
Theres jim cameron making a fucking movie of it and the print editions sell like hotcakes. They're rereleasing a hardcover delxue reprint in a few months.
Austin Butler
The reveal that alita was born from a boob tumor was mind blowing.
Josiah Sanders
last order is shit and a disgrace on the original and you should feel ashamed for liking it. The vampire flashback was good though.
Carter White
Move on grandpa, mars chronicle is amazing. Last order was so so. The ZOTT was shit, the rest was gold.
Jace Torres
Heh I read the original a few months ago and then started LO. Read the first chaper and I didn't really like how the characters design changed and really didn't care about the first chapter. So I said fuck it and just read the last chapter and I'm glad I did because wtf.
Logan Butler
The first arc of LO is pretty golden. People just had an issue with the ZOTT dragging on for more than 10 years. The entire criticism of LO is the DBZ style fighting tournament, so if you dropped it after the first chapter you didn't even get to the part people hated. The first 10 or so chapters are pretty much in tune with the original.
Christian Mitchell
>Read the first chaper and I didn't really like how the characters design changed The style of LO in the beginning was still pretty close to the original.
Jack Brooks
>this is what /fit/posters actually believe when they crossboard
Jaxson Wood
recent chapters makes me hope we'll get an official Gally's sex scene in the story one day.
Jeremiah Parker
what
Juan Lee
the thing I disliked the most was how they changed the personality and characterization of alita. in the original, pre-memory loss she was a brainwashed almost emotionless hardened soldier. In LO she was an insecure schoolgirl who just wnted to impress her senpai and didn't know what she was doing. In the originl she was confident oozd mental strenght, no matter how much shit fate piled on her. In LO she's an emotional wreck with a senpai complex. At times it felt like I was reading a shitty yuri comic.
Jordan Perry
Did we read the same manga?
Lucas Morris
this manga was recommended on Sup Forums for over 12 years. how much should Sup Forums talk about it?
Daniel Brooks
It's still running, you know. Berserk still has loads of threads going on, despite being constantly on hiatus. Alita still updates on a regular schedule.
Zachary Williams
That's only because you didn't play the PS game that came out 19 years ago.
Did they do the tumor reveal there too? I couldn't find a comprehensive summary of the story other than that it already had the ZOTT and some mars reveals.
Jeremiah Ramirez
thoughts on the upcoming 2018 movie?
Easton Nguyen
Bootleg Nova isn't nearly as interesting and OG Nova
Thomas Nguyen
>Martian Chronicles is just one huge flashback arc
Thomas Rodriguez
hopefully it will be better than GITS was
Nathan Bell
Then you missed out on the awesome figure 4 arc after the ZOTT was over.
Ryan Foster
The baron is even more batshit insane and evil. Nova is chaotic neutral.
Ryder Johnson
This has james cameron involved so it might be the first amazing manga hollywood adaptation. This also has rodrigez directing, so it might be a rancid turd. It's hard to say.
Aiden Rodriguez
People hate on LO to much
Sechs made the whole thing worth it
Ethan Phillips
That german actor guy might have been a great nova, I cant really see him as ido.
Christopher Davis
Isn't Cameron doing 4 Avatar sequels right now? You won't be seeing Alita movie any time soon.
Josiah Richardson
You have to understand that reading 10 years of ZOTT was a huge pain in the ass. Everything before and after is golden though.
Jonathan Edwards
It's already filmed and in post production. Release is june 2018
Brayden Perez
I don't have to understand I went through those 10 years
Dylan Williams
It's already in post-production and set to be released next July
Easton Rogers
I'm currently re-reading LO and the alita quest arc feels so fucking good after the slow drag that was the ZOTT. Such a return to form. I think the ZOTT was definitely kishiro's biggest mistake. Those 10 years where I assumed alita would stay in shonen battle tournament hell forever were pure torture, but having an entire arc with ido and figure 4 set on earth after that 10 year travesty felt like redemption.
Colton Moore
I never got this complaint about the ZOT
Half of the arc is vampires and Alita sneaking around.
The semi-finals and finals are the only bits with excess fighting.
Ryan Morris
So its more story focused? They are selling the Mars manga in Germany, I already thought of getting them but I feared another endless tournament or something in the middle.
Charles Sanders
I started reading alita in 1998. There was just so much more plot progression in the old books, the ZOTT literally ran for 10 years straight and wasted years of manga for a dumb tournament with annoying side characters.
Jackson Bell
Let's not forget that last order ended up giving us the nova vs ido showdown.
Nolan Cooper
Mars Chronicle is 100% story focused and goes into REALLY dark places. It tells alita's backsory on mars, something most fans have waited for longer than 20 years. None of the time wasting tournament bullshit. A lot of flashbacks, but they all serve a purpose.
Sebastian Bell
Thanks. Guess I'll get it after all. Not to mention that the Mars part was always missing from the story depite being an important part of Alita's character and world. At the beginning I was expecting LO to delve into the past but it never happened.
Lucas Clark
>Did they do the tumor reveal there too?
Yes. Pic related is the princess that got infected with the disease.
Austin Gomez
It's really amazing but also full of suffering. Like edgy beyond what you'd expect.
Zachary Foster
Wow, did you play the game? I always knew it was out there but I never realized it was important for the plot in any way shape or form.
Jeremiah Taylor
I played it a decade ago so I really have a shitty memory of the whole plot.
I remember having to cheese my way out of ZOTT and final boss being an asshole.
>I never realized it was important for the plot in any way shape or form Long story short the ending of the original manga was not what the author wanted because reasons so he had the game feature his intended ending. Plenty of stuff found their way into LO and MC.
Nicholas James
Did anyone notice the talking gun alita has in mars chronicle is the one from the very first cover art?
Easton Cook
...
Gabriel Lee
Kinda shows that kishiro had a plot he wanted to tell for decades now. Nice to know that even in the game the ZOTT was a drag. Any interesting details about it you can share? It's really hard to find any conclusive information about the game online and playing it seems to be a chore too.
Anthony Martinez
I went to look for the folder I made about the game, seems I played this in spring 2006. I also made some shabby notes.
Really? I find the art for mars chronicles even worse than last order (at least early last order, I haven't read late in a while), and the story went from some sort of geopolitics/shonen cliché to loli torture porn which is possibly even worse. Characters like münster are just so hackneyed, he's like desty nova if you removed all charisma, ambiguity and playfulness and replaced them with literal mustache-twirling evil. He even fucking runs around and tells you how evil he is!
Noah Reed
Only the last 3 chapters are original material.
This is the princess of mars who was infected with the head thing disease.
Ian Cox
This guy is a politician traitor or something, gets infected by some shit and turns into a monster on Leviathan-1 I think but not sure.
Sebastian Thompson
I found the backstory to munster pretty good actually. Hes a complete villian but he's not just insane for shits and giggles.
Lincoln Allen
This is the last boss of the ZOTT, I guess it's from Jupiter. Fucking asshole.
Michael Sanders
On Jeru you meet Garuede who is a robot designed to eliminate Panzer Kunst warriors. At first he's fat as fuck because he's missing a brain piece or something.
Nathaniel Wood
Is she also a huge bitch like in the manga version? Also spoiler for baby alita
Owen Rivera
He gets fit once he has it back.
Isaac Scott
On Mars you meet Zouo (the final boss), a cyborg who evolved the Panzer Kunst into the Panzer Faust I think.
I think she wasn't much of a character at all, she was either long dead or a brain in a jar and only served to introduce the disease.
Zachary Jenkins
Zouo has four arms.
Levi Mitchell
Considering how much of mars chronicle corresponds with martian memory we might see updated versions of those characters in the future. Very interesting, thank you.
Jack Brooks
Also he likes to sing karaoke.
Dominic Collins
yeah, I actually found it pretty interesting too and a clear improvement over the rest of the manga, but it's still far too edgy. The original series was never this cartoonishly grimdark, even makakus backstory pales compared to what happens in mars chronicles. Makaku was just a sewer orphan who was burnt by some punks, in mars chronicles every pov character seems have characters friendly to them either betray them or get horribly killed. Desty nova is an eccentric with no morals, Münster is an EVIL man who does EVIL THINGS. It's like a fucking cartoon.
Lincoln Flores
He fights Garuede soon after his introduction.
Hunter Murphy
A thing I miss are the old hair styles and eyes. The new designs are still good but I prefer the first ones because of personal taste.
Gabriel Collins
Garuede jobs like a bitch, Gally jobbed like bitch herself to him before.
Andrew Thomas
Last Order hinted some guy named "tiger" as the founder of panzer kunst. Is that guy supposed to be him?
Bentley Sanchez
After defeating Zouo you meet the scientist who put Gally's head into a cyborg body to have a cutie daughter. He's now a huge brain because he contacted the disease and lol reasons I think.
Isaac Gray
His reasoning for being evil is that because he was a innocent man who got so much shit that it's his turn to be so evil that the shit they did to him at least makes sense as a payback.
Lincoln Sanders
I can see the princess on that screenshot so I guess she's not dead. Was she around for the big party epilogue? I can't remember.
Gavin Hall
it's explained in a way that somewhat makes sense but I thought it came across as cheap still
Lucas Perry
Some character doodled Zouo.
Isaiah Sanders
Oh boy. Kinda amazing how a 20 year old psx game already spelled out the groundwork of the plot to come in the manga. Why did kishiro waste so much time on the zott then?
Though I heard the ZOTT was forced upon him by the editors and as soon as he changed publishers he ended it.
Isaac Rodriguez
4 arms bastard. You kick his ass one last time in the epilogue when he asks for a rematch on the big party epilogue on Leviathan-1.
Then Nova has a broadcast telling them that while they were away on Mars he turned the whole planet Earth into a giant laboratory for his experiments and the game ends.
Brandon Williams
Well he's still interesting in how he cared for erica, even though she's the daughter of the guy who tried to shotgun murder him and he's deeply connected to alita because of that whole tumor thing.
It's going to be interesting to see if he's behind the necro soldiers or if he's just a red herring.
Hudson Gutierrez
The ZOTT is nothing but a boss rush against 4-5 foes in the Jeru chapter.
Things went completely nuts in LO.
Xavier Rogers
>Then Nova has a broadcast telling them that while they were away on Mars he turned the whole planet Earth into a giant laboratory for his experiments and the game ends. Oh shit
Leo Flores
...
Kayden Russell
I think the ZOTT is where alita lost most of it's readership to a degree.
Kevin Martin

Gally then. Also that dude looks like a evangelion. Do you speak fluent japanese or did you play with a guide?
Easton Fisher

Jose Green
IMAGINOS APPROACHED THE SUN
Mason Reyes
>Then Nova has a broadcast telling them that while they were away on Mars he turned the whole planet Earth into a giant laboratory for his experiments and the game ends. If kishiro goes for that tweest ending for mars chronicle it will piss off so many people.
Leo Kelly
I don't think there's a full playthough on youtube. For people interested in the gameplay. It's a bit like Soul Reaver 2 combat.
I can read katakana and hiragana so it can only get you so far.
Nathan Jenkins
Call me Desdinova, eternal light. These gravely digs of mine. Will surely prove a sight. And don't forget my dog, fixed and consequent.
Nathaniel Clark
>I played it a decade ago I did too. If I remember correctly, there's a picture of the Queen (?) of Mars with her arms covered in small faces from the disease. I've wondered for years if he'd actually go with that backstory or not. Guess I better pick up the new manga now.
Kayden Garcia
I'm going to throw my popcorn at the screen if it's not in the soundtrack to the movie
Easton Scott
Damn, the fighting system and the sounds are all over the place.
