I really liked Bebops OP and steins;gate. I guess the song is more important to me but the visuals play a big part to I guess
no j-pop

For it to put me in the right mood for the show to come. For example, over the top music for slow or somber shows is a big turn off.

Ergo Proxy's OP always stood out to me along with Cowboy Bebop's and FLCL's. I usually skip J-Pop OPs because I don't care for it at all. I do have a bias for rock music, which some Japanese artists do well.
You Get to Burning, always and forever.
I love it when an OP just gets you hyped up for the show and this one nails it. From the static shots of the Nadesico and its bridge to the pre-launch sequences to the actual robot action, everything in this OP screams "We're going on a fucking space adventure, kid."
It needs to be fitting to the show (though OPs that deliberately clash with the show's tone are okay too, like Death Parade's)
Obviously needs to be a good song, and have good visuals.
Otherwise I suppose whatever goes
A good song
Yeah for sure! I guess that's kinda the point of an op now that I think about it
pretty much on the same boat but every once in awhile the J-pop OP is just to damn catchy.
Totally! i feel like a lot of Mecha shows do this very well.
Blue Exorcist has my favorite OPs and EDs. Only the third ED is exempt from my love list
