every summer i visit my grandparents, pretty much all other relatives left to other eu countries. i honestly just don't identify with turks at all, but at the same time i feel l i can never be accepted by the bulgarians unless i convert orthodoxy (i'm an agnostic) and change my name to the one my dad adopted in the 80s.
when i go there it feels like home. moreso than any other place. i was always encouraged to learn the language but honestly it's hard here in america.

i've just always had a feeling of emptiness inside of me, and i think it's because of living here in an american city. i've talked to other bulgarian diaspora on here. some from chicago and others from nyc. it's just absolutely hell here.
no i just keep to myself and look after my grandparents. since they're old. i've traveled to places like asenovgrad at times and I will say that everyone is extremely friendly. though, lets say i fall for some bulgarian woman, would i ever be able to get the blessing of her mother and father? and then there's the question of last names and what not.
i mean i just don't know. it sucks being in the situation i am in because it just feels like you're torn between two identities, neither of which really fit you. and i dont wanna go marry some kebab because i've always considered myself a south eastern european and so has everyone around me.
it went into my mind so much that i even took dna tests to figure out what i am ethnically so i can find out where i belong. (33% east europe, 33% south, 33% caucasus) also some very little east asian. i2 paternal haplogroup.

What matters to parents is that you have a stable job and are a good person. If you get to meet them, you tell them you identify as a bulgarian. Which is true since that is your citizenship. But even if you are very conscious about that, there are lots of bulgarian turk girls that are secular, studying in Sofia or Plovdiv, that you could marry.
I hope that soon one day both nations will become better friends.
