Anime. That hair in the manga is just a bit too 80's for my taste.
you mean /dbs/
Is the manga even worth reading?
This reminds me, why did Oyuki's hair look different for a while?
>I'm leaning and my animator can't draw hands
Manga all the way.
Anime with outfit from the manga.
The only thing right has going for it is toenails.
Well, two of them at least.
That hair is wonderful you gayboy.
She always had ice hair in the manga, but for some reason Oshii didn't go with it in the anime even when they started redesigning the characters.
When the 2nd staff takes over they finally bring her ice hair. I think it's the only element of the anime that's outright thrown away during the staff change.
Yes, though Viz's localization of it is a bit dodgey in many points, and they only brought over less than a third of it.
I can't really say, on my own opinion, whether the anime or manga are better than the other. I feel like it really depends on the episode/chapter. Some seem like they were better in one than the other, and vice-versa.
The second half of the manga has humor that's very similar to Ranma 1/2, but that wasn't really translated over to the anime. But at the same time, there was a lot of very surreal and artsy stuff in the anime that wasn't in the manga.
All I can tell you is that if you're only familiar with one, you should try the other. They're pretty different from each other.
That's one way of admitting you're homosexual.
Manga is a lot more lewd.

Why does Sup Forums watch this show?
It's funny and cute.
Because Lum is my wife.
God, Ataru is such a dumb fuck.
Why does he fight for that bitch Shinobu when he has a god-tier waifu wanting nothing but his love?
No really, Shinobu is shit,
> plain as hell
>a fucking prude
> anger issues
Yeah, that sounds like GREAT qualities in a woman.
Sure, Ataru is hardly Prince Charming. One could actually argue that he is directly responsible for ALL of Shinobu's negative traits (but honestly, that's her fault for dating Ataru in the first place, if she dislikes those qualities of his)
>Why does he fight for that bitch Shinobu when he has a god-tier waifu wanting nothing but his love?
Because it's a comedy series, dumbass.
...
...
The one big advantage the manga has is no Ten at the start. The anime introduces him at episode 2 for some reason and retconned him into all the earlier stories.

Ataru's so great. I wish we had more protagonists like him nowadays.
It's because he was already in a long relationship with Shinobu since childhood and Lum just forced her way into a relationship with him. Even when he eventually does fall in love with her, it's hard for him to break that stubbornness just due to the circumstances of how their relationship started.
That being said, Ataru does give up on Shinobu after a while. Well... at least for pursuing a serious relationship. She just ends up becoming one of the infinite number of women he wants to fool around with and Lum becomes his number 1 in her place, just... again, that stubbornness of his remains because of the circumstances of how their relationship began.
That being said, regardless of who Ataru is with, he was always going to chase after other girls. This is the guy whose main goal in life is to literally have his own harem.
The anime is amazing.
The manga is better.
>when he has a god-tier waifu
Lum can be just as bad as Shinobu when it comes to anger and jealously.
...
...
Was Lum the Forever good?
Kill yourself, faggot
Simple reminder that pic related is the best character in the show.

Cute boys.
>Doesn't like the 80's poof
Arguably worse. At least Shinobu doesn't fucking electrocute him.
I liked it, but I also like surreal, weird shit. A lot of people don't like it because they don't get it. Granted, what there is to "get" is meta as hell and not spelled out, but whether or not you'll enjoy the movie depends on if you like mindfucks.
Shinobu was cute though
It's worth reading to see Takahashi at her prime and why she is/will be remembered as one of the greats.
>there was a lot of very surreal and artsy stuff in the anime that wasn't in the manga
I haven't read the manga, did the fox appear in it? His episodes in the anime were interesting but seemed slightly out of place
Nah, he was in the manga. It's actually one of the rare cases where Rumiko attempted a different style herself. His chapters often had minimal dialogue.
I was thinking of giving this series another shot, I vaguely remember watching the first ep years ago and not really caring much for it, maybe it gets better? Was about to start Maison Ikkoku, should I go for Maison or Urusei?
>perverted teen has extremely shit luck, not unlike many people
>his life is centered around having to be stuck with lum, shinobu, etc.
>atarus mother pretty much hates him, his father really doesn't give a shit
>family falls apart somewhat
>most people in this anime lack common sense and are pretty stupid
>there are many people like this in real life
>atarus life is almost completely overtaken by females
>females will ruin your life if you let them
Is Urusei Yatsura redpilled?
No, because Ataru wants there to be even more women on the planet.
Maison Ikkoku is more down to earth than UY with characters that are probably more relatable, whereas UY is more about the antics that ataru and company get involved in. I loved both, but I'd say UY probably needs to grow on you over time if you started out not caring for it
The series changes quite a bit once they go from two stories/chapters per episode to focusing on a single one, since it slowly leads to more and more animal exclusive material to complete the episodes, which sometimes can be very different from Rumiko's own writing. Some of UY's most remembered episodes are technically "filler" or filler heavy.
Anime.
UY I found pretty difficult to get into years ago.
halloween in japan is a little different huh
late oshii/early yamazaki anime urusei yatsura is the best
I meant to upload these forever ago, sorry about the delay

The BD batch uses subs that are retimed from the dvds, and the dvd batch uses a russian upscaled source that keeps the full 4:3 frame. They're up on nyaa pantsu
Thanks bro.
...
Shinji Hikari ruined male anime MCs.
We need another anime/manga with an Ataru-like MC that become super popular in Japan to make things straight again.
Reminder that Rumiko Takahashi is trash and that if you like her work you have shit taste
>and the dvd batch uses a russian upscaled source that keeps the full 4:3 frame.
This obviously was not shot in exactly in 4:3 since we can see more of the fat guy with the glasses in the 16:9 cropped version
It was likely something inbetween
Might as well watch in release order so UY first
I recommend reading MI
What I love about the anime is that you can just see that the creators had a blast making it.
youtube.com
Someone in the comments of one of the Nyaa.se/Bakabt torrents said the original 32mm reels were 16:9 (or something around that). Cropped to 4:3 for VHS/DVD releases, and apparently the already cropped version was cropped again to fit the 16:9 blurays.
You're not supposed to agree with him
...right?
Would those 32mm reels even still exist? It sure would be nice to have the original material available
They do, but it's too expensive to remaster them for BDs so they cropped the 4:3s instead.
Which is the best UY movie, and why is it movie 2?
That image isn't beautiful dreamer you retard.
What ever happened to Sup Forums watches?
You realize the author is a woman, right?
Besides, all the characters, men and women alike, end up getting development and good characterization the further the series goes on, so none of them are really, truly demonized. Even the very few villains are actually rather sympathetic.
About that, it should be noted that while UY started before MI, MI started early on in UY's life, and both ended at the same time. They ran in different magazines, so they were series that Takahashi was working on simultaneously. Ranma was the Shounen Sunday series she started immediately after finishing Urusei Yatsura.
Speaking specifically about the manga here, though. Anime was a different story, where it went UY, then MI, then Ranma.
She is pretty dumb isn't she?
You take that back.
I mean the animation is pretty good at proving she doesn't weigh enough to use that equipment at that setting but she tries anyways. Also if she wanted a best chance at moving it she would need her hands as low as possible.
And while we are on the subject I just realized she got out of this situation lucky, Imagine she managed to lift the thing and then slips because of course she will. That thing is literally pulling her legs into a position directly under the lowering weights. Who designed this machine Jigsaw?
Reminder that you should watch Inaba the Dreammaker.
