Scanlation thread

What are you working on?

Please don't do the delay for a while and then drop. Just say that you want to drop it and I'll be with you on it, I want to drop it too!

Nothing cause I'm waiting for TLs for over 9000 things. You know who you are.

Nothing. Just waiting for the next Hinamatsuri chapter to be released.

Thinkgen about fonts

Porn, what else?

>working on porn
I hope it's not translating/typesetting it.

Already did something once. Why would I ever do it again.

You've already breathed once. Why breathe again?

It's everything. I work alone.

How recently do I need to have touched it for it to qualify as "working on"?

Any time in the last month.

Damn, then nothing.

>ugcity is dead
where do I go now for sekrit club raws
I be some other raw circlejerks exist

I don't know whether to pick up loli bullying or loliba comfying.

pick a shota

How does one translate Kansai-ben? I know the norm is to use Southern accents but how do I WRITE Southern accents? Will using Ah and Ya for I and You and in' for ing suffice?

I considered it, but then I found out they were all shotas.

Working on Beastars.

Nothing because I can't find more raws of futari no jikan.

>not "muh doka.png"

Just translate normally and put in a note if it's really important.

Also add some "ya'll"s

You fucking don't.
Make a TL note saying they're speaking in kansai-ben and if that they want to experience it they'll have to learn japanese.

It's kinda her schtick.

Make her a new yorker, then. It'll be funnier.

Proofreader hasn't replied in 10 days, what do I do? Wait longer?

Some series that haven't been picked up yet:
Soft Metal Vampire
Meganebashi Hanako no Mitate
Yama to Shokuyoku to Watashi

Some series it'd be cool for someone to pick up again:
Ikitemasu ka? Honda-kun
Kawaii Joushi o Komarasetai
Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau
Noboru Kotera-san
Tokkabu: Tokubetsu Kagai Katsudou-bu
Ureshon!
Ueno-san wa Bukiyou

proofreaders are expendable, assuming one person on your team is fluent in english

the eighth chapter of this series has more redraws than the other 7 combined
luckily the RAW quality is crap so i can do a mediocre job and it won't make the quality better or worse

I don't have anybody else, I'm a one man team and just wait for random people to offer help.
He said he'd do it I just don't understand why it's taking so long. It's really short.

>I just don't understand why it's taking so long
A lot of people like the idea of helping more than actually helping.

if he hasn't come back to you with any kind of communication ("ill finish it in X time and if I don't you should ....," "sorry ill get to it eventually," "i dont want to do this anymore," "how has your day been?") then you can assume you'll never get anything.

get a new proofreader, even if he does eventually do it you don't want to work with someone who leaves you hanging.

also don't be afraid to reach out on your own and ask the dude what the hell is going on

I've worked with a bunch of different people and so far only one kept me updated on progress. Barely anybody bothers to do that.
I don't want to but I guess I'll email them again.

be more upfront at the very beginning about how you want communication to be. Otherwise people won't bother to contact.

You've probably been pretty unlucky. I've never really had much problem but then again, most projects I've worked on are all "at your own pace" so people don't worry too much about finishing quickly

I almost always ask "When do you want to release this / What's my deadline", that should be common practice

I always emphasize communication over scanlation progress

I mean not finishing quickly is one thing, but saying they'll help and then never replying to me again is another. All my previous proofreaders did the same. Volunteered and then never came back.
I wait two weeks before assuming they're gone forever, and I mention this on my contact page. This one's just really short so I wasn't expecting this.
I hadn't thought about that, I guess directly tell them to keep me updated from now on.

This is truly the worst part of scanlating. I can't bring myself to start working on some new things because I have no staff for them.

Anyone want to typeset a Pokemon yuri doujin for me?
It's cropped, cleaned and leveled.

That's probably why a ton of people end up learning everything anyways

It's that or join a group with a lot of people

Which series is it?

I learned to do everything but it's too much of a pain so fuck that.
Some faggot shit, tengu no yomeiri.

It's what happens when there are no obligations or consequences. I've done it in the past when I realized I bit off more than I can chew. I do kind of feel bad, but you really have to keep your expectations low when it comes to these kinds of things. The best thing you can do, short of somehow finding someone that cares enough to stick with it, is to regularly give reminders and ask for progress. They'll usually give some sort of response, even if it's just "sorry I don't want to work on this anymore". And if they don't, well, at least you know you tried.

How much do you enjoy wild words?

Is it a bad practice nowadays to use Wild Words or Anime Ace for normal text?

He's trolling.

I'm okay with Wild Words, but I fucking loathe Anime Ace.

You have such a pathetic life.

cleaning and redrawing are chores but typesetting is torture

Is everyone ITT Japanese?

You know what's real torture?
Buying, importing, scanning, translating, cleaning, editing and typesetting all by yourself.

probably not and I'd be surprised if even half were

and a little girl

Of course not, why would that be the case?

how do you QC/proofread?

>how do you QC/proofread?
Not him, but I don't.

It's probably my autism speaking but I thought only Japs that know English come into these threads, let alone work on scans

Not him but, I just re-read them several times until I'm satisfied.

There are more native English-speaking scanlators than Japanese, and more ESL scanlators than native English-speaking.

I'm actually an ESL 3rd worldler.
Japanese is my 4th language.

japs don't need to scanlate manga, they just buy their $3 manga from the bookstore and 5$ magazines from family mart and read it whenever they want. They have no reason to translate a series into a language most don't even speak

It was always bad practice to use anime ace. Probably one of the shittiest fonts to use for dialogue, given how poor it's legibility is

this is news to me, good luck on your work anons
I should have clarified when I meant Japs I meant japanese people that live outside Japan

Any tips on translating a shiritori dialogue?

TL NOTE
L
N
O
T
E

There are already few enough Japanese living outside of Japan, the chances a randomly picked one reads manga is even lower

Good idea. Something like romanizing the japanese words and putting a tl note in the same bubble?

That is how literally everyone TLs shiritori games.

again, autism

aight

Anyone here have access to digital raws for Shonen Sunday issue 44?

no judgement.

gotta make sure my typesetter knows to hide my failure at redrawing hands so the world won't know

Nothing, I lost my pc in a earthquake

I give it at least a day between drafts and go over it several times that way.

I wish I had the patience to do that... for some reason my ass can't wait to upload a finished chapter

Working on this short by an artist named Tani.

Do you take requests?

What series?

Maiko-san Chi no Makanai-san chapter 37
We have 38 but is missing 37 for some reason, and now we're 2 chapters behind

What's that loliba manga?

>redrawing before typesetting
Why?

Maybe ask Amano Megumi's translator

They're even further behind than us

The chapter from issue 44 is already translated though, see

Do you have his contact? Or should I just message the guy who post the chapters to batoto?

Oh, you can contact me either way. I'm not home now, but I actually foresaw this happening and ripped maiko already.

So I haven't downloaded raws from ebook in a year and the plugin I was using doesn't work anymore. Is there an updated one? I have a few manga that finally concluded that I wanna grab the digital raws for but if it's impossible now I won't spend money on it.

Oh really? Thanks a lot then. I'll try to keep this thread alive until you get back

If the thread does die, I'll contact via batoto.

Cyan stream guy came and asked to hijack the series, so now Hina's under new management.

What pairing? How long? If all the work's cut out for me I just might do it desu

>Cyan stream guy
Who?
I told the guy who wanted to take over that he could do it. I don't really mind, to be honest. I just like giving dead series a kick so they get attention and other groups pick it up.

Same, their typesetter asked me the same question around the same time you brought it up, so I just let them have it. You mind?

I don't really mind.

Thanks it worked but how do I set it to single page mode? Looked through all the reader options but can't find it.

Not that user, but have you tried using Responsive Design Mode (control+shift+M) in Firefox or the device toolbar in Chrome and modifying the dimension of the window until you get only one page to be displayed at a time?

I have some more manga anyway if you want it

I don't need more mangos.
