Nah, a lot of south america doesn't have the resources Argentina has.

Basically in the early 20th century they had a rising middle class, but the upper class implemented some very very bad economic policies to keep all the wealth for themselves, so the middle class died off. When the resource boom ended (and the world wars/depression fucked with exports), the economy collapsed. Then there was a coup, and a bunch of horrible government changes.

Then they started putting tariffs on EVERYTHING, which is horrible economic policy (you target them to protect strategic industries, like Canadian farm tariffs, or japanese auto tariffs). So it stagnated and hasn't recovered. The government is so corrupt it probably never will.

Economic policy plays more of a part in the success of a country than race, despite what Sup Forums wants you to think (hence why places like the US and Canada are successful even though the 56% meme is real).

The world is going to become an interesting place this century.

I was in Buenos Aires last year (from Ireland) and it's such a contrasting place. You go to one of those lovely gated suburbs where every house is beautiful albeit surrounded by fences, then you walk 3 blocks away from it and see a slum where every shack is made of loose cinder blocks and cardboard, with a soldier standing by the perimeter, informing you it's a no-go-zone beyond him. Every other country I've been in has a more gradual descent into the poor areas from the rich ones.

Anyway, I didn't see many people with consoles, but I did meet people in the slummy areas with iPhones. So I'd imagine most people get their fix there. That and the fact the power can go off so regularly makes playing consoles less appealing.

Canada and the US have only been so heavily mixed for a couple decades or so, and that's when their economies started to collapse.
