Not really, it's the most generic shounen series possible.
If there was an entry in the dictionary for "Generic Shounen" there would be a picture of this series next to it. The setting is generic, the characters are generic, the visuals are generic, the plot is generic. There's not an original thought in this series and even the execution is generic.

I have no idea how a series like this became as popular as it did. It's frankly terrible.

It's the kind of shit kids in Japan want to read, but not to buy. Still sells like shit for all the advertising it gets and something Shueisha specifically said they want to be the next Naruto.

It's budget Fairy Tail without all the cute girl fapbait and played without even a hint of irony.
You'll see what I mean in a few episodes after the MC has joined a whacky magic knight guild renowned for destruction of property more than anything else but despite all this are all really friendly and strong with signature magic abilities that they use.

Even though it's Naruto I find the comparison to Black Clover, from what I've seen thus far, quite insulting. Naruto had some spirit and originality to it in both plot and visuals.
All that overhyping will do is add Black Clover to the list of series the jump tried to artificially boost through overhyping and supplementary material, like Toriko before it.

That's true but good works can also fall into limbo because nobody cared to market them. Overzealous as the jump and Black Clover's editor are, I can't blame them for trying because they care.

The reason I hate this show is that it doesn't even try not to be shamelessly derivative trash. Naruto was shit but at least it had heart. It had the spark creative ideas held back by poor execution. This shit doesn't even make an effort not to hide the fact that it's a soulless chimera of everything before it. It's the most transparent industry plant I've ever seen. It's like a more obnoxious Fairy Tail without the fanservice.

Why did the priest make a 6 year old boy go and deliver the letter when he could have just flown there on his broom?

It isn't as bad if you watch it at 3.5x speed like I did.

There's still a lot of shouting but somehow because it's a flashback and he's a kid I find it a lot easier to tolerate than when he's a teen.

Correction shit like that only works to make people watch the show, but initially but it doesn't keep them there and if BC can't attract people then they can't ever take its training wheels off, meanwhile the other manga do become tugged next and Shuiesha misses the chance to cash in on that manga's popularity

Why can't they let the VA scream like when he was a kid? It was in short bursts and not monotone. When he screamed again for his final attack it went back to the usual long monotone scream that sounds retarded. Why the fuck is there no "climax" to his scream?

Besides the scream, the VA's voice actually really suits the character.
