Travis Bickle was just crazy.. that's what happens when you don't sleep. Happened to me when I was driving trucks over the road. I would cook my log books and driver up to 20 hours straight. Yes it made you go fucking insane. Luckily for my sanity, I pushed myself so hard that I was able to discover that my brain was hiding epilepsy the whole time, so no more truck driving for me. Now that I live a normal life, I am fairly sane again.

I definitely felt like a zombie when I didn't sleep a lot (3-4 hrs a night). Most of the time, I stayed up on my own time, and I think I did so because I felt I was being deprived of enjoyment for my life by my work.

>brain was hiding epilepsy

this is some next level dualism

I'd have to find the study again, but I read once that when testing on animals, animals we're most likely to attempt self harm when deprived of sleep, more so than food deprivation, and over stimulation of visual senses.

No, you psycho

>Was he an MK ULTRA assassin?
It's a fucking movie you retard.

There were a couple times I punched myself in the face because I was so frustrated with fucking up in my job and living in a cuckshed for them. I think you are right about sleep deprivation

I meant the character, you literal mong

Yeah I'm a fat lonely autistic virgin I have everything in common with a well-built Vietnam veteran with good looks and a job.

Also reminder DeNiro is a shitlib and a racemixer, his children are literally le56%.

For
Fucks
Sake

Well, there goes a potentially good thread.

yeesh complete faggots missing the entire point of thread.
if you don't identify with last 20 minutes of TD.
just kys.

what if would-be mass shooters channeled their butthurt that way instead of going after soft targets?

He was a symbol of social apathy. A man that sees degeneracy and filth speading all over him, but doesn't have a conviction to fight back against it. He tries to pull of something like this and change the status quo at the end, and manages to do a single good thing in the end. The problem is, his good deed just a drop in the ocean, and ultimately changes nothing in the grand scheme of things.

>tfw can relate to the absolutely awful diet Travis follows
>hate degeneracy yet constantly partake in it

Paul Schrader wrote it while living in his car and his ex-girlfriends apartment after they'd split up. He spent his days roaming around, visiting porno theatres, and one night had a girl like Iris approach him for sex. In the original screenplay Sport was a black pimp, but they changed him in the movie for PC reasons.

A subtle thing to notice is that while Travis is calmly talking to the taxi firm owner at the beginning, we see in the background a small window with two men arguing with each other. This reflects Travis's internal anguish.

Another thing you may have missed is the use of drumbeats in the soundtrack, often very militaristic which is again something associated with Travis and his being an ex-soldier not fully recovered. One example is when the sweaty street performer beats out a military rhythm as Travis passes, and another is the intense drumbeats when Travis buys a weapon.

Also, notice that when Sport dies the camera zooms in briefly takes notice of his fingers, specifically one of his rings which is that of an eyeball. He literally had an eye / Iris wrapped around his finger.

What we find in Travis is a very sensitive, childlike, naive guy who, broken from trauma in his youth, is confronted with a city whose vices he witnesses first hand because he is rather inexperienced and therefore agrees to work in black ghettos and in disgusting slums full of degenerates. Sickened by this, and suffering alone in his shitty apartment he first becomes apathetic, self-loathing, angry, reckless and depressed but then is radicalized by his primitive need for a meaning in life and can only rescue himself by becoming highly organized, brutal, doubtless and willing to kill those who harm innocence, as symoblized by Iris, who he doesn't really care about considering he tries shooting himself in front of her.

>ide tify as travis bickle
No, Robert DiNegro has ruined every rold hes been in with his shitting all over the US and his marriage to a filthy negro that spawned 3 ugly mulatto sprogs, at least one of them has autism... beyond the sub80IQ

yeah this movie really spoke to me, I cried at the end and everything

Threw his awesome genes down the toilet.

El goblino...

"Listen, you fuckers, you screwheads. Here is a man who would not take it anymore. A man who stood up against the scum, the cunts, the dogs, the filth, the shit. Here is a man who stood up."

Wish deniro wasn't such a faggot irl

His monologue when he talks to the politician in his taxi and complains about how degenerate the city is becoming resonated with me since I'm from Los Angeles and have witnessed it slowly go from nice tourist destination to beaner/homeless infested shithole.

>Wish deniro wasn't such a faggot irl

I know right, I try not to imagine him as the faggot he is, it would ruin Casino for me, being that's one of my favorite mobster movies.

> ginger ISIS fighters

> mfw fighting off a muffin top and excessive degeneracy at the same time

My sound track is formed when I roam my city at night. I feel more at home in solitude amongst many than with other people a lot of the time.

why did he do this? is it because most italians can't stand nogs and he did this to be a rebel?

He was a fucking retard who brought a girl to a porno theatre and tried to get a handjob on his first date, so no

YET ANOTHER GLOW IN THE DARK SHILL THREAD TRYING TO GLORIFY AND SEW THE SEED OF POLITICAL ASSASAINS/KILLERS

PLEASE SAGE

I think he just genuinely has a black fetish. Like Roger Ebert.

That seems to be most US cities now. Shame.

Yes I identify with him. I know what it's like to be outcasted, be disgusted with the world, and have it possibly be my fault. Travis is self-destructive, and COULD have the life he craves. He just fucks it up.

He's an anti-hero. I believe he's a good person whose energy is directed in the wrong direction. Killing Sport should have been his first option. I understand that killing Palatine was more poetic for him. A bigger stab at the world, but it wouldn't have resulted in anything positive. Though I really don't know if he NEEDED to kill Sport. He deserved it, but for Travis' well-being, he could have taken Iris away to that settlement. He didn't want to become A) He already decided he wanted to use violence as a statement, and B) He can bring himself to avert his attention from the garbage of the world. In the porno theatre, he shields his eyes but goes anyways. He hates the scum, yet works nights in the shittiest parts of New York.

I could talk about this movie for ages. Just did a presentation on it, actually.

Also, this Peterson video is perfect for this movie and conversation:

*because, not become

Good video on this line of thought, watched it multiple times:

I don't think a handjob is what he was after

Last year my sleep went totally off kilter. I was sleeping for three to four hours a night for 12 straight months.
At one point it got down to two hours a night - but I started to experience very real health concerns rather than just *feeling like a zombie*.

At two hours sleep a night I started to lose my memory.
I couldn't remember peoples names I had known for years.
I couldn't remember what I had just done a few minutes ago.
Then my eyesight began to fail. My eyelids twitched uncontrollably, then one eye wouldn't focus correctly.
I had headaches all over the back of my head. My speech began to slur like I was drunk - then I began to stutter. Then my hands started to shake. I got convulsions in my leg muscles too.
I was quick to anger and very depressed. I started using a computer for 6-10 hours a night.
I finally consulted a doctor after I started suffering from nosebleeds, my urine went very dark, and I had a lot of pain in my back.

He said that I had developed kidney stones younger than anyone he had ever seen, and after a few questions he said "You look very pale. Are you sleeping well?"

"Two or three hours a night for months" I explained. He asked if I was serious. I said I was.

He started me on a regime which eventually involved supplements, exercise, self hypnosis, ASMR, and FORCING myself to sleep for 8 hours a night.

I recovered, but I can see how going for longer would start to make people hallucinate and have temper tantrums.

Damn son. That's some real shit.

At least I rack out good during the weekends.

this movie is jew garbage

What's not jew garbage to you?

Honest question

In short, the point of the movie was that Travis was a deranged killer who happened to kill the right people. As such, his actions were not only excused by society but praised.
Iris was an excuse, and so were the pimps. If they were not an option, Travis would have killed anyone. It's about how we as a society judge killers with hypocrisy and view murder on a very long spectrum of acceptable to unacceptable, when it's really all just murder.
Travis was and remained a killer, and as the last shot shows us, it's a matter of time until he strikes again. He was also misanthropy incarnated and he hated all people, as evident by his attempt to kill Balentine. He also thoroughly despised the happiness of others.
Many of us have felt like Travis, but the film shows us the fine line between us regular sufferers of loneliness and him who, in the end, was a different beast entirely.
And yet, I enjoyed every second of his rampage and would very much like to do the same thing in my environment.

Good analysis btw. The same channel has one on Apocalypse Now.

I've seen that before. Good analysis.

Also, what a QT

> qt

too white for my taste ;) Anyways, I digress.

>Was he a hero or a villain?

that's the point of the movie

I live in NYC and feel like him every day

Even in all its gentrification? I feel a soyboy's sort of passive aggression tbqhf

Shit I'm sorry for the repost.

Good post. Must have seen this movie at least five times but I totally missed that stuff about the drum beats

It's good Serb bro :)

Theres alot of parralels between Travis and probably alot of us here who lurk and post every night. We spectate the degeneracy of the world and comment on it in this bleak way. Like Travis, some of us have the ability to offer deep social commentary and introspection, but we are confined to our parents basements, living in semen stained bedsheets and in front of the warm, comforting glow of our laptops. Partaking in the same degeneracy that we are so passionately against. But at least we have self awareness and are concious of our mispent energy, unlike the 'real world'. Ignorance can truly be bliss though, and it is easy to find yourself jealous of normies sometimes.

As isolation and 'dropping out' of society becomes more and more common nowadays, the character Travis will begin to resonate with a whole new generation. A testament to the timelessness and depth of the film.

Fictional proto-school-shooter. Is what happens when the loner white man lives in a modern multicultural society.

Bro you should check out the real, Chetnik shit from the real wars.

Also Herzegovian/Bosnian quality tune.

...

>Was he an MK ULTRA assassin?
and if, maybe?
>Was he a hero or a villain?
ambivalence is a thing
>Any of you identify with Travis Bickle?
no i don't

stop watching hollywood

When I was in highschool my biology teacher told me I looked like him when I shaved my head like that.

I'd love to watch more Iranian films, but there's not enough of the good ones that don't pander to SJWs subtitled in English. This is an example of one not translated:

> Kandu (Beehive)- 1975
> youtube.com/watch?v=hWP4OR_-coM

About some guy that acts on a bet he won't get kicked out of a certain number of bars in one night. It precipitated the feelings in Iranian society that led to the Revolution in 1979.

Here's one that is translated, and I highly suggest the watch:

> Tangsir- 1973
> youtube.com/watch?v=RwxICKH07wA

About a member of an honor-based tribe which is humiliated by the local clergy when they refuse to pay his money back. Mirrors the slights to the decent man's honor in society that precipitated said revolution.

After a while I don't feel the need to watch movies anymore. If I do it's generally from someone like Kobayashi. Most of the time I listen to music(mostly classical) or read books.

He had Schizotypal personality disorder.
