I'm recently divorced and paying most of my income (90%) in alimony and child support.
I seperate from my former wife because it turned out the son we were raising was not mine. She had been having an affair with my best friend since shortly after our wedding, and he had gotten her pregnant with their son. For ten years she kept the affair secret, and I raised the boy as my own, but when I found out I left.
She filed for divorce immediately. The court awarded her custody of the child as well as ownership of the house and ordered me to pay alimony and child support.
My exwife and former best friend then got married. I'm still paying alimony and child support for the child that isn't mine but is theirs and is being raised by a married couple his biological parents in a house that I paid for.
Is this situation right? Is there anything I can do? I'm very unhappy with this situation and I wish there was something I could change but I can't afford to hire a lawyer.
Any advice you could offer would be helpful. Thank you.
Because in the end, it was never about whether you were biologically his father. It was about whether you need to support him. But-- to be honest-- they don't need any money. At all.

One is to go completely off the grid. Burn every identifying document you have. Work for cash. Leave your family and your friends behind except for the occasional postcard. Rest of your life. I don't have many details on how to do this but many do.
2) QUIETLY make the decision to leave the country. Develop a strong knowledge in the immigration/citizenship practices of another country. Maybe even learn another language. Particularly a country without US extradition. This option leaves you unable to return, however you will be more free to live your life more normally in your new country.
You only get one life and you're being raped by a system that is wholly and completely unfair. You can't murder anyone and that's understandable. However, the "Right thing" to do is, sadly, not the legal thing to do because the right thing to do is to let that woman and her bastard find their own way. You did nothing to deserve this.

This is wrong. Most states don't care who is biologically the father. If you supported the child you become the legal father, even if you were tricked into thinking it was yours when it wasn't. Some states have a window, say 2 years, where if you find out it's not yours before the child is 2 then you can get out of payment. Some states have ruled the spouse is always the legal father even if you knew right away it wasn't.
