Restarting the Lorain facility would provide more than a million tons of new production capacity
In response to President Trump signing proclamations Thursday imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, Republic Steel has announced plans to restart its Lorain facility.
The move would bring back more than 1,000 jobs to the Lorain plant, which will be positioned to restart its idled electric arc furnace, casters, and rolling mills on short notice.
Republic currently has open capacity at its Canton melt shop. >Restarting the Lorain facility would provide more than a million tons of new production capacity. The company anticipates tht it would take a few months to hire and train employees and restart its idled equipment.
Republic Steel is the nation's leading provider of special bar quality (SBQ) steel.
>"Republic is more than prepared to support market demand that has been previously supplied by imports," Jaime Vigil, President and CEO said in a statement. "We maintained our Lorain facility while it's been idled waiting for the opportunity to restart and it appears that time is finally here.wkyc.com/mobile/article/news/local/lorain-county/republic-steel-restarting-lorain-facility-adding-1000-jobs-after-steel-tariffs-signed-by-trump/527002801

MUH TARIFFS PART II
U.S. Steel to Restart Illinois Plant Operations Amid Trump’s Tariff Plans
www.wsj.com ^
The company plans to call back about 500 employees
United States Steel Corp. X +4.25% said it would restart a blast furnace in Illinois to handle the higher demand it expects from President Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs on foreign steel.
The steelmaker said it also plans to call 500 employees back to work at the Granite City mill. U.S. Steel idled its blast furnaces there two years ago as a flood of cheap imports pushed down domestic steel prices. Steel producers have been hurt in recent years by increasing competition from foreign competitors, particularly China, that have ramped up production at lower prices.
Prices have been rising again in the U.S. in part because of the Trump administration’s discussions over whether to widen tariffs that have been applied piecemeal in recent years. Spot-market sheet-steel prices have risen more about 37% since October to about $810 a ton, according steel-industry price surveys.
Prices are expected to rise further if the tariffs proposed last week by Mr,. Trump—25% on steel and 10% on aluminum—are implemented.
U.S. Steel restarted steel processing at the Granite City site and was expected to restart blast-furnace operations to make raw steel from iron ore after
>“Our Granite City Works facility and employees, as well as the surrounding community, have suffered too long from the unending waves of unfairly traded steel products that have flooded U.S. markets,” said Chief Executive David Burritt.

Get skilled at a particular trade, THEN apply.

Even in America, you should have a trade (or a ton of money to invest with) to succeed. Since you'll have to get a trade anyway, might as well get it ahead of time.

NEW MADRID, Mo. — A Swiss-based company will open an aluminum smelter in the Missouri Bootheel region, creating up to 400 jobs in one of the state's most impoverished areas.
Gov. Eric Greitens, U.S. Rep. Jason Smith and other political leaders will announce details about the new Magnitude 7 Metals plant Friday in New Madrid County. It's not clear when the plant will open.
>Smith said in a news release this week that the company is already hiring. The plant in southeastern Missouri will occupy the facility formerly operated by Noranda Aluminum, which closed after filing for bankruptcy two
Smith said President Donald Trump's economic policies, including tax cuts and regulatory relief, helped convince Magnitude 7 Metals to open the smelter.
Officials said the new plant also will benefit from steep tariffs on imported aluminum and steel that Trump announced Thursday. Smith said China had 10 percent of aluminum smelting in 2000, and 55 percent as of 2016.nytimes.com/aponline/2018/03/09/us/ap-us-aluminum-plant-greitens.html

Century Aluminum CEO: will recall workers if Trump imposes tariffs
LOS ANGELES, Feb 23 (Reuters) – The main U.S. producer of high-purity aluminum used in military aircraft is poised to begin restarting idled production lines at its smelter in eastern Kentucky and recall some 350 workers if President Donald Trump imposes aluminum import curbs.
Century Aluminum Co Chief Executive Michael Bless told Reuters on Thursday that the Commerce Department recommendations for aluminum tariffs or quotas would allow U.S. primary aluminum producers to restore all of "what's left" of their idled capacity to production.
Century could probably bring its Hawesville, Kentucky smelter back to full output of around 265,000 to 270,000 tons annually by early 2019, Bless said. The company has shut down three-fifths of Hawesville's production machinery in response to a flood of imports in recent years from China, the Middle East and Russia.mining.com/web/century-aluminum-ceo-will-recall-workers-trump-imposes-tariffs/

She has been pretty clingy lately, and keeps bitching to me about the need to settle down and her biological clock. I'm not her first but I do like her alot, got promoted a few months ago and my boss is training me to be his successor. I wanna focus on that. The other caveat is that i'm shit with girls, could not get a gf for the life of me in college and H.S. Only when I hit 26 was i getting good results.

What do I do? Also fuck /adv/ they give shit advice every time.

US seeks to boost output of 35 minerals, reduce import relianceWASHINGTON/TORONTO, Feb 16, 2017 (Reuters) – The United States should boost domestic production of 35 critical minerals including uranium, cobalt and lithium, to reduce its reliance on foreign suppliers, the Interior Department said on Friday.
Aluminum and potash are also on the draft list of 35 critical materials used in basic manufacturing, batteries and electronics. It was the department's first step to carry out a December presidential order to break US dependence on foreign minerals.
Lithium and cobalt are vital components of the rechargeable batteries that power electric vehicles. Battery makers and auto companies such as Tesla Inc and Volkswagen AG have been hunting for long-term supplies of the minerals.
"Any shortage of these resources constitutes a strategic vulnerability for the security and prosperity of the United States," said Tim Petty, assistant secretary of the Interior for water and science.
The administration wants to identify new domestic sources of critical minerals; increase domestic exploration, mining and recycling; give miners and producers electronic access to better mapping and geological data; and streamline leasing and permitting for new mines.mining.com/web/us-seeks-boost-output-35-minerals-reduce-import-reliance/

Swiss manufacturing company has chosen to expand its U.S. operations — and has chosen to do so in Gwinnett County, officials announced Tuesday.
Gezolan, which manufactures rubber granules commonly used in rubber flooring and other projects, will open a 60,000-square-foot facility off Hamilton Mill Road in the city of Buford. The facility will house the company’s U.S. manufacturing plant and operations.

Gezolan is part of a growing number of companies nationwide announcing new manufacturing investments in 2018. Lumber manufacturer Canfor Corp is building a new $120 million mill in Georgia, and Martin Technologies announced last month that it plans to construct a new 60,000 square foot manufacturing facility and add 250 new jobs in Tennessee.shopfloor.org/2018/03/gezolan-announces-plans-construct-new-12-million-manufacturing-facility-georgia/

energyindepth.org/national/bp-energy-outlook-u-s-dominate-global-oil-gas-production/
>BP’s recently released Energy Outlook 2018 projects that the United States will continue to expand its position as the world’s largest producer of oil and natural gas through 2040. In addition to establishing a commanding lead in global oil production, which includes crude and natural gas liquids, between now and 2040,
>BP expects the U.S. will account for nearly a quarter of global natural gas production by 2040. Such impressive production levels are driven by the use of hydraulic fracturing, as the technology has unlocked massive reserves of tight oil and natural gas from shale regions across the country.
As EID has reported over the past few months, the United States is now seeing record oil production, thanks to a significant increase in output from shale – specifically, the Permian Basin in West Texas – over the past decade. BP’s Outlook sees this growth trend continuing, predicting that the United States will “dominate” oil production in coming decades. According to the Outlook:
>“Increase in oil production during the first part of the Outlook are dominated by US tight oil. In the ET scenario, total US liquids production, including natural gas liquids (NGLs), account for two-thirds of the increase in global supply during the first 15 years of the Outlook, plateauing at around 23 Mb/d [million barrels per day] in the early 2030s. Yes, China's direct selling of steel in to the US is low. But they dump a lot of steel and other metal in to Canada and Mexico via sweetheart agreements and then this "Canadian" or "Mexican" steel, through NAFTA, is moved in to the US in very large volume.

Judging by your syntax, I'd say you aren't an English speaker, also. I won't point out your mistake though because fuck you, you sneaky Chinaman.

I was following this user's updates and if you read the last one, it said this Tuesday so that means even with the tariff bullying they are still coming over.

By Serene Cheong (Bloomberg) — Big oil tankers sailing from the U.S. are set to bring along some benefits for refiners in Asia while allowing them to sidestep traders serving the world’s top crude-buying region.
The new option to load oil into very large crude carriers at the U.S. Gulf Coast terminal operated by the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port, or LOOP, will reduce costs and waiting time for Asian buyers of American supplies, according to shipbroking firm Braemar ACM. It also reduces the need to rely on traders to manage complicated tanker logistics that sometimes involve multiple smaller vessels transferring crude into a bigger boat.

Loading about two million barrels of oil into a VLCC at LOOP could cut about $300,000 in direct costs — or 20 cents per barrel — compared with the current process of chartering several Aframax vessels to load barrels from inland berths and ship-to-ship transfers to larger tankers, according to Braemar ACM. Additionally, loading at the terminal also reduces the timeline to one day from the four days that’s currently needed.
The LOOP’s About-Face on Oil Imports Cues U.S. Drive Into Global Market
>(HOLY FUCKING SHIT)...To sweeten the deal, LOOP is also willing to offer storage space in its tanks at discounted rates to enable exporters to collate enough volumes to fill a full VLCC. It has storage capacity of 71 million barrels, nearly as large as the 78 million barrels at U.S. oil hub in Cushing, Oklahoma, Singh said in the report.
