The anime is not a good indicator of the LN's quality. They changed up some pivotal scenes that give development to other characters in favor of shoehorning Horikita into everything. The third volume adaptation (the island) was the worst one. They changed some interactions, skipped some stuff and yet they kept all the Horikita dialogue, so it looked like the MC went to some place, teleported back to Horikita, went to another place, teleported back, etc.
And omitting MC's inner monologues, while making him a deadpan character didn't help either. For instance, in the LNs he keeps saying Kushida is too cute, even after knowing her dark side, he gets flustered, acts weirdly when he tries to make friends. In the anime he's permanently in nothing personnel kid mode

Just to make it clear, the lines that Karuizawa got for screentime in the anime was from this girl, Satsuki Shinohara during that arc.

If this is true it wouldn't be a surprise if Kushida and Ryuuen have been fucking. After all, he IS helping her to get Horikita expelled. On the other hand, the benefits he gets in return are minimal. Honestly I don't think anybody thinks Kushida will actually get expelled. She's a cute girl in a school based semi-harem LN. The main appeal of series like this are the girls.
