Why is there so many timid and introverted MCs nowadays? What happened to the good ol days when the MCs were likeable and alpha? Why isn't there more of them?

Timid and introverted MCs have always existed, and likable and alpha MCs have never stopped existing.

Watch more anime and lurk more, newfag.

Now why does thread sound familiar?

Likable? He was hated by nearly everyone at his school.

Hi someone called?

...

which make him likeable to the viewer

obviously OP is talking about us, the viewers, and not inworld

just because some characters say in the background, ''look how x he is'', that doesn't mean we perceive him us such too

Why would the viewer like a guy that's hated by his entire school?

Not that guy, but this is a stupid question, and you just asked it to be annoying.

because we are not talking about liking real people but characters in stories, and liking characters in stories is based on the enjoyment they bring to you while enjoying that story and not on how you would like that said character in real life interaction with you

it's like liking a parody of hittler in a comedy movie without liking the real counterpart

He's hated because he's too cool for everyone else there.

Anime these days panders hard to beta male power fantasies

Fujoshis

/thread

>too cool
Ugh. Now I hate him too.

It's stupid why?

He's "likable" based on what? Your opinion?

This. Industry is more dependent on otaku purchasing power than ever before.

Cause people themselves changed. And not just the target audience the studios pander to. You rebel, you get laid off work, or medicated.

>and liking characters in stories is based on the enjoyment they bring to you

So what you're saying is that Yusuke being "likable" is completely subjective to the audience and bringing up that he's more "likable" than today's MCs is as worthless as taking note of which color you like the most.

...

(you)

It's true. It's like saying someone is "cool" when people have different takes on what cool is, so you might as well not have said anything.

what is this meme

>implying an alpha MC like the one in OP pic isn't just a self-insert power fantasy gary stu.

Exactly. Alpha, proactive characters are ultimate power fantasies. If anyone did try to get away with that shit in real life, they'd just get humiliated. A lot.

>that goat from Inaba
man I had totally forgotten about that show

That's a huge part of the appeal. Beta self-insert protagonists and alpha protagonists are both a form of escapist power fantasy. With that said, the meek loner MC types are largely designed to bank on the predictable social ineptitude of the "otaku" demographic as a whole, having a relatable character in their worst aspects rise to some occasion and show how amazing he is. On the other hand, the alpha types tend to consist of one or several ideals that are above normal everyday behaviors, attributes, and achievements. These traits don't necessarily have to be admirable, and can even be deep character flaws, but they can still come together to be endearing and lead to character growth. Both MC types have their merits, but the beta types are the one that are being heavily exploited to make money in the current sea of worthless viewers/buyers.

[spoilers]Also, you fucks around here throwing about "self-insert" need to figure out how protagonists work. If a story is primarily about a character's progression and potential growth, you're going to start relating to them in some way, regardless of what type of character they are. It's why a vast majority of protagonists need to be likable and/or pitiable in some aspect.[/spoiler]
