SAA is just gonna secure Tal Rifat and the nearby airbase in Afrin and let the Turks take the rest. I called this a while ago when the Kurds asked Assad to intervene. It's all about setting yourself up for the conflict - nothing else besides the airbase is of any real strategic value. Plus the Kurds left that area in Aleppo.

Turkey has long provided even more direct support to Ahrar and Zinki which are fighting HTS - Ahrar is even an official part of the TFSA ("Syrian National Army)
Why would they help ISIS? All these groups are proxy armies helping bigger forces to make land grabs.

This has always puzzled me about OB - don't the participating FSA brigades want to topple Assad? I've heard talk of Turkey pledging to hand the land over to Assad, but why would the TFSA stand for this... why would they agree to do Turkey's dirty work for no reward at all, it doesn't make sense unless Turkey privately assured them that they'll get to turn it into Afrinistan and the pledge to Assad is bullshit

I'm just saying, this guy is surprised they're helping HTS when they were buying black market oil from and arming/facilitating movement of ISIS fighters for years.
Turkey is one of the bad guys ultimately, at least from Syria's perspective, but the Turkstream gas pipeline with Russia gives them a ton of leverage in this situation.
