I think we never have changed our attitudes since the medieval ages. Then, babies being born happened all the time, at a rate too high and it couldn't be stopped at all. Rivers got dirty, resources depleted. Some escaped to the new world.

Things have changed but the attitude in its core hasn't at all. It's the same kind of thinking like "don't have kids if you can't raise them right". And you must always work more, since life is a struggle. Always work, ask questions later. Also something from the past, since people mostly operated a bare minimum above survival back then. But this attitude has been coded so much into our culture that it doesn't really matter whether or not you actually need to slave your life away, you just got to do it.

This stuff does also exist in America. Luckily there are more rural areas with actual people in America.

Quality of life in countries like the Netherlands or Germany is about equal to the US.
I'd know it because I grew up there (Dutch Mom, German Dad)
It has to do a lot more with religious upbringing and social structure in my opinion.
Girls in the US are actively encouraged to have children.For example both me and my gf are 22 and whenever we go to social gatherings with older people they will just casually ask us when we are planning to get married and start our own family.
A bunch of my gf's friends are already moms in their early 20s and she loves going over to their place to see the kids.
If I dated a german or dutch girl they would get upset about both of those things.
