I made these habitats for municipal stocked fish ponds. One style was corrugated pipe with cement on the end, the other was weighted pallet stacks. Kinda boring, but better than cutting trails.

I made Eagle thinking I'd be proud to tell people about it for the rest of my life. I'm glad I finished when I did. The organization is becoming a populist mess. Losing all its values because it's more of a corporation than a philosophy now. Kids are bringing their smartphones to campouts and don't care about honing skills because they can just use their phone to look it up or be a map for them.

Near the end of my involvement with my troop I saw a kid get his tenderfoot requirement for building a fire by lighting a pre-made kit from Amazon in a pit. So fucking disgraceful.

If you don't mind that it's turbo Christian I think it's decent. If nothing else the troops in my state seem to do a hell of a lot more outdoor stuff and community service than most BSA troops in the area.

It's worth checking their website if you get bored. They haven't reached my particular town yet but they're in pretty much every town surrounding me so I think it'll only be time since a local church in the area started an American Heritage Girls and usually churches will do Trail Life USA and American Heritage Girls.

I do object to how political it has become, but only because to me that was never the point of it at all, and it's just a distraction. My son is 5 now and I'm considering the Tiger Cubs for him. I'd encourage him to go Eagle if I could be closely involved with the Troop, because to me it really is whatever you make of it. There were lame-o kids when I was in it, too.

Women leaders are allowed for a while now. In my experience, they're a mixed bag, mostly on the negative. Boys need male role models, not soccer moms.

Nice. Did you do north or south Philmont? Also, scouting is still good, but make sure you find the right troop. don't get stuck in an eagle mill or a soyboy camp.

This how I feel. There was some kids screwing around when I was in it (and it was me sometimes until I grew up more) but it was a valuable experience and I did learn a lot of skills. Being an Eagle meant something to other people too. It helped me get scholarships and jobs. I'm glad I got my Eagle before the institution got gutted. Boy Scouts is one reason I have a deep personal animosity towards the left.

Got my eagle in 2009, my troop was an Eagle machine, had 5 or 6 guys get Eagle every year. Its so discouraging to see what the organization has become. Any other Flint River Council anons here?

7-day trek. Baldy Mountain during the summer of 1994. In my case basically my dad and I took it seriously while a lot of the other kids acted like idiots and made trouble. This is more or less what I'd do with my own son. I suspect it's always been somewhat this way.

I was from a small but very active troop, we did super strenuous philmont trips in 2000 and 2002. Went through it with guys I went through 12 years of school with and we are still friends today. Also OA brotherhood but was never active after I finished.

‘97 eagle, North Florida Council. OA Brotherhood, has some great times at pow wows. Saw what happened at summer camps once they allowed female staffers through Venture. Never allowing a daughter (god forbid I have one) to be involved.

2006 here. Built duck houses for the Missouri conservation department and installed them in the wetlands. Shit was cash. Super easy too. Ducks are cool.

My friend hated the meetings so much he'd just flat out bail on them. I remember one time he bailed and we just went to the range to shoot guns for a hour or two. Good times though it doesn't feel as long ago as it is.
