First anime you watched?

Besides mainstream ones you watched as kids, ie. Pokemon, DBZ, Inuyasha, etc.

Pic related is mine, gave me the weirdest boner

This was mine too. Watched it on youtube 7 or 8 years ago. Wish i hadnt bothered cause its probably how i ended up on this shithole of a site

Define mainstream. The first one anime I watched were Toei's Puss in Boots. The first one I consciously downloaded were either Slayers or FLCL, I don't remember.

I'm only here because you guys raided Gaiaonline over the O RLY? hat

>tfw Clannad

Excel Saga.

Haruhi
Was on a gmod freebuild server, one of the admins creates a giant screen and starts playing youtube videos on it, eventually puts on the first episode of haruhi. Everyone on the server spawned in couches and chairs and gathered around and watched through the end of melancholy together.

Evangelion, a pretty good first.

Comic Party DVD set, the show that really got me into anime past gundam wing and dragon ball Z & pokemon that showed on TV.

Azumanga Daioh

Love hina knowing it was anime
Mazinger z not knowing

Dokuro-chan on youtube with spic subs because I saw a big titted girl in a yellow bikini and didn't know any porn sites.
First Anime that I watched that I was like "I'm watching anime" was KissxSis

>a young anime fan
>also a young baseball fan
>discover Princess Nine

And the rest is history...

Ranma 1/2, Super campeones, Dragon ball, and guerreros de zodiacos.

...

pipirupirupirupipirupi

I guess my first contact with anime that i watched on youtube sometimes were either gash bell or umisho, but the one i watched and finished was Ranma 1/2

Mainstream enough?

BINKAN BINKAN BINKAN

It was either this, Cowboy Bebop, or Evangelion

Does Viper GTS count?

Vampire Knight

Outside of mainstream...? Not sure, but it might have been Elfen Lied.

Trigun after watching the beer song on youtube

...

Am I an oldfag?

French?

I don't remember the name, those cats with mecha-like samurai armor

Akira on vhs.

Angel Blade

The fist subbed anime I watched was probably Naruto.

Digimon Tamers was the first anime I never saw on TV.
Fullmetal Alchemist was my first subbed anime.

But many years before either of these, I tried one or two episodes or so, subbed. Some Love Hina, and one "mermaid" thing that took place on a beach that I know and remember very little about, but I suspect it may have been Mermaid Melody.

Samurai pizza cats/kyatto ninden teyandee or whatever?

My first anime i watched aside from Pokemon was pic related, after a friend oft mine suggested to check it out. Looking back on it im not really sure why i even watched both episodes. The first one i actually enjoyed watching was Haruhi.

Good god i remember watching that when i was a kid.

Now i feel old.

My first was FMA: Brotherhood, but I didn't really get into anime until a few years later when I watched GitS: SAC and Lucky Star.

After watching it, did you expect every other anime to rip your heart out?

Going to be very unoriginal here and say FMA 2003, after that it was Haruhi or Dokuro-chan, forgot which one I watched first.

>The first one anime I watched were Toei's Puss in Boots
My frater of African descent. I had forgotten about that, but those were the first ones I saw too. Aged two-three-four-something, in the early 90s.

I'm not American, so we didn't get most of that stuff until the early 2000s. Before that, there was only Sailor Moon, the odd Toei and Miyazaki movie, and Pokémon later on, as well as a handful of VHSes translated by a single guy in the late 80s.

Let's see, I watched the Ninja Scroll movie around '99, although I struggled to keep up with the English dub back then. Saw Dominion Tank Police on VHS a couple of years later, similar story with the dialogue.

We got a DSL connection in 2003, and that's when I actually started to download episodes. I got some CDs with extremely shitty rips from friends, as well. I was all about One Piece and Naruto back then, as I lived in a tiny village and didn't have much exposure to anything.

Then I moved, made friends with real anime nerds, and shit just went downhill from there.

Man, that took me back. Thanks for this thread, OP, and sorry for the blog post.

Silent Moebius

And shortly after followed Record of Lodoss War.

Dokuro-chan, Haruhi and Luck Star were my first anime aside from shit I saw on Toonami

Pic related but also OP

The first thing I went out of my way to watch was Haruhi

hol' up I forgot my country has some weird anime collabs

This boy

Technically Sin City, Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z, but I didn't know they were anime at the time.

Actual anime, I got invited to the university anime club screening in like 2003 and they screened Gunsmith Cats.

Cromartie, still great after all these years.

This, and what a wild ride for a firsttimer it was, watched S1 in broadcast order (not even knowing what it was at that point), then "S2" and Endless Eight (also not knowing that it's fucking EE), and finishing just in time to watch the movie camrip with Sup Forums.

Is sonic X and kirby mainstream? I think i watched medabots before also.

Same as OP, back when you could watch anime on youtube. didn't start regularly watching till a couple years later.

Fmp

cyber city oedo 808

yea! that's the one, thanks user

l had a terrible first experience with the first non mainstream anime that l watched. It was so bad l was one of those "I HATE ANIME" teens.

It was Chobits

Ghost Sweeper Mikami back in '96

Kinda shitty first experience, not because the show was bad, but because now I want all anime to just be as creepy and unsettling as this.

I mean my siblings and I watched Pokemon and Yu Gi Oh when we were kids, but Inuyasha was the first one I went on the internet and watched from start to finish so I call it my first.

vhs days were the best because of this masterpiece

...

If we ignore DB, the odd Ghibli and AKIRA then I think it was Baccano!, not 100% sure.

Mirai Nikki. I still love that show.

DN angel- Had a sick op youtube.com/watch?v=FKgNPqojzlM

Still my favorite to this day

Samurai Champloo

Lucky Star

I was so confused but had fun anyway

>you guys

>was about to post something like "THAT SHIT IS LIKE 2 YEARS OLD"
>2011 was 6 years ago

Son of a whore

DxD
I don't know what went so right

It was either Marimite or SP.

Code Geass
I win faggots.

I fucking hate when this happens.

Depends how you look at it. First anime I watched, when I started to actually like it, was also Dokuro-chan oddly enough.

If I go back years though I watched Battle of the planets (raped version of Gatchaman), Ulysses 31, Cities of gold etc without knowing what anime was. So I don't really know what would count as first.

My very first anime was probably Dragon Ball or one of those popular ones but I consider that the first anime I saw when I started the journey from casual to full weaboo was Girls Bravo.

Are you a bonglander by any chance? BotP and Ulysses were standard fair over here in the 1980s.

Caught a few anime films - Akira, Northstar, wicked city, lensman during the 90s. But only really started watching anime about eight years ago.

Evangelion is completely mainstream. It used to come on after full metal alchemist on adult swim.

Love Hina.

He didn't say it's obscure, he said it's good

Back when pic related was airing on Cartoon Network when I first got cable as a kid. Didnt know at the time it was 'anime.'

First thing I knew as anime was probably the Princess Mononoke movie when it came out on DVD.

He said besides mainstream stuff and Evangelion isn't good. In fact it's a complete downgrade from Madoka and everybody knows it.

Ronin Warriors on late night cable.

>Are you a bonglander by any chance?

Very possibly.

youtube.com/watch?v=KfCM4MfsKEg

I'm pretty sure The Big O was the first anime I watched that wasn't a dub shown with the Saturday Morning cartoons, or a Miyazaki film distributed by Disney

I saw a marathon of Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi on cable one night when I was like 12. I can't even remember the channel it was on, I think one of the channels that got absorbed by G4 before it went bust. I think I stayed up to watch the whole thing because one of the characters had really huge tits.

Anyways, I forgot about it for years, half-remembered as some kind of fever dream, until I ended up on Sup Forums half a decade later, saw it in a thread and remembered the name.

I then realized that it had been my first truly "otaku" anime outside the mainstream, and not something on Toonami as I had previously though.

How did you manage to get into anime from this horseshit.

Started using Sup Forums in '06 because of Habbo raids, watched Bebop, FMA, FLCL, Champloo, and Haruhi on Sup Forums's recommendation(this place gave recs at the time), didn't like any of them, gave up on anime for about five years. Wasn't until I watched Eva and Berserk years later that I got into it.

...

I don't think I had any, I transitioned from 4kids shit to real anime so smoothly that I think it's impossible to define a starting point

One Piece was the first anime that I looked for online.

You didn't like FLCL and Champloo? How old were you?

First anime I watched online subbed was Naruto

Can't remember first non mainstream one but probably Shana, Dokuro, or DearS

Gantz. I saw an abridged series of it while I was young and a huge fan of Yugioh the abridged series. In it they censored "full frontal female nudity", and it was the first time I found out I could see boobs in anime. So I watched it.

Fullmetal alchemsit on adult swim in 04/05...i was 11 when i saw Night of the chimeria's cry. i also remember one episode of Gits:stand alone complex i thought was a horror anime a first for some reason

Crayon Shin Chan

I remember watching lucky star in my last year of middle school. Kolkata was probably my second waif. The first was kagome but I guess that doesn't count.

Ninomiya kunwhateverthename is, after that is Dokuro.

Absolute Duo.

I had just finished watching a Korean drama, and somehow ended up in an anime streaming site. It was the first in the list of the currently airing shows. It's a pretty generic school battle shounen/harem/ecchi.

AAAAAAAAAAAA FIGHTING EVIL BY MOONLIGHT, WINNING LOOOOOOVEE BY DAYLIGHT-

This

...

How is it possible to start off with such great taste?

Anyone else a retarded romance fag when they were a kid?
