Yeah, because it's probably the best put together dog of all time. Designed to keep that core mastiff protection quality but, very crucially, be able to train too. You don't get that with other mastiffs at all. Maybe the distant offshoots like the Newfoundland but amongst the guardian class, Rottweiler is still the ONLY one you can safely take off a lead in a park during the day, and leave it to protect your property at night.

It's a good choice, but I can't stress enough how protective they are. You have to be mindful of it. Especially with children.
I had a friend come to my house the dog didn't know, and she positioned herself between me and the door, and wouldn't let me get by her, while she growled at my poor friend shitting bricks. They're very serious about protecting their own.
If you have kids, pretty much no one but you is going near them. It sounds great and all, but you really have to keep an eye on that.

I never fed any of them raw meat, ever (I've owned 5 in my life). Play with them, A LOT. Walk them. A LOT. If it growls when you put your hand near its food, you have a bad one, get rid of it. Get a female, they're smaller, but no less formidable. Make sure they interact with children from the beginning, even if it's a neighbor's kid. Reward them with attention, not treats- it works better in most cases.
Kennel train them if you can stand the noise.

Ok, cool. I usually rotate dogs so I have one when one dies because I can't handle the grief. One small, one large. I usually keep the small one as a terrier type but I've just lost my little guy over Christmas, so now it's just the female Labrador. I thought of getting a larger male this time so thought I'd go for a Rottie. In my own experience, males tend to be more affectionate (across all breeds) and females more trainable - so yeah, maybe you're right, and I'll just wait for the Lab to go.

It's worth emphasizing for new doggo owners how important walks are. WALKS, not drags, I see many owners of both big and small dogs get dragged around by their pets, which only will lead to bad behavior in other areas of life. When you first get your puppy buy a harness instead of a collar, so it can learn proper leash manners without being strangled. A few good walks a day make a huge difference in day to day behavior.
