Showa Monogatari is literally the only anime not for autists.

This is true, it's also very enjoyable.
Also sad to say but the manga really doesn't compare, they did a great job with the anime.

It's a show for bringing me to tears by the end of the OP so hard I can't even watch the rest of the episode. I really have no idea what it's about.

I felt the same way. Doesn't have the magical setting that Aria has, and they don't do any fucking diving until the last episode. It's okay, but mostly just boring.
