Telomeres are expendable "extra" bits of DNA to keep our cells from making mistakes when they make new cell. Every time a cell divides it leaves off a bit of the extra DNA to make sure it's not accidentally adding something like cancer or a third arm into that fresh new cell. Once the "extra" bits are used up the cell can't trust that it won't make mistakes, stops reproducing, and "you" start to break down.
Pretty sure the same effect can be reproduced with just a diet change. Considering the caloric restrictions of space food I'd say that had greater affect on the DNA than space travel itself.

That is because of our spherical planet’s shadow! If the earth were flat then the moon would some times appear to be split in half (due to the edge of the flat planet casting a different shadow at certain angles). This has never occurred though, because both objects are spherical and thus cast circular shadows no matter what angle a light source is placed at.
