West is only failing because governments are trying to force things on the public that the public doesn't consent to, and this is leading to friction that necessitates violence (and more and more of it) to control the public.

Which in the end, pushes resources towards domestic policing and away from important things like being globally competitive. So long as the western governments continue to try and push what the public doesn't want, it will continue its slide into despotism and failure.
