our society has the most basic, ignorant, silly misconceptions about trans people, and they're forced to cast around themselves hoping to find real information besides the bs cis people feed them. They're lucky if they can find some trans people who know what's up to help them.
It's no wonder her dysphoria was bad with everyone treating trans people like a spectacle or some grief porn and obsessing over our genitals while being weirdly fixated on the process of transition.
Acting like it's some delusion in their head simply isn't consistent with the science, regardless of whatever other ideas you may have about it. Leaving aside many trans people have genetic or genital intersex issues, their brains and bodies are different from and do not respond identically to their respective cisgender peers.
Gender is both simpler and more nuanced than most peoples understanding, and most people don't bother thinking or getting educated about gender in general.
