BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:07 P.M.) – According to reports from BBC journalist Riam Dalati, rebel fighters in Damascus’ East Ghouta region have fully withdrawn from the district towns of Hummuriyah and Sabqa. Al-Masdar News cannot yet independently verify this claim.
The claimed development comes amid the mass flight of thousands of civilians from militant-controlled areas of East Ghouta towards Syrian Army checkpoints.
One Syrian State TV reporter near the frontline claims that some five thousand civilians have now safety left the combat zone in East Ghouta by passing over into government-held territory via the crossing point at Hammuriyah.
Earlier it was reported that insurgent forces in Hammuriyah – numbering less than one hundred fighters – were mulling over the possibility of withdrawing from the stronghold in the event that ‘all civilians leave.’
