How are the Chinese portrayed in Japanese media compared to the Kankokus?
How are the Chinese portrayed in Japanese media compared to the Kankokus?
They give them a negative comnotation most of the time.
usually worst girl with twin tails and a qipao
>How are the Chinese portrayed in Japanese media compared to the Kankokus?
You mean all those genderbent Chinese warlords?
>Chinese character
>Drawn like a stereotypical Yellow Menace character
Every time.
usually slanty eyes for chinese and koreans, rarely do they get portrayed as a cool looking character but when they do, they get fucked over story wise.
Chinks give themselves a negative connotation.
Xiaolang was pretty okay.

Ikki Tousen
Odango hair
Speaks the Japanese equivalent of Chinglish
Extra slanty eyes
Didn't you watch pingpong
SHAO PAI LON
Chinese electric batman
Every Chinese anime girl is basically based on pic related.
This is a chink
This is a Corean.
Also, SEAs are just brown.
Not our fault, the chinese draw themselves that way
>Positive (usually main characters)
-Shaoran and Meiling
-Hei
-Shugogetten
-Revy (technically American)
-Yang Wen Li
-The kid from Digimon tamers forget his name
>Neutral (member of harem/side character/chinese setting/some villains)
-Lingyin
-Shampoo
-All the koihimes
-Cyborg 006
-The sisters from Canaan
-The twins from FMP TSR
-Wang Liu Mei
>Negative (comically evil villains, usually politically motivated)
-Zhou and all the other chinese from Mahouka
-The chinese from GATE
I'd be more interested in how the Japs are portrayed in chinese cartoons.
In hikari no go they were presented pretty positively (top left is one of the only chinese main supporting characters though) the koreans(bottom two left) were not negatively either, though the main "villain"(if you can even call him that, he was just a teenage brat) of the last arc was korean
>odango hair
>qipao
>broken grammar
>squinty eyes
>chop-socky adept
The real menace ain't the yellow so much as the reds.
>Cyborg 006
He's an odd duck for me because while Ishinomori was a huge anti-racist and Cyborg 006 was clearly meant to be a positive role model, he's arguably the weakest and most useless Cyborg in the group. Even Cyborg 008, the black guy whose only real power was underwater breathing, had the secondary power that he could survive extreme pressure depths as well.
Which is wierd because you'd think the power to breathe fire would come in handy, but he's mainly just the team cook.
...
008 was a veteran of a guerilla war, 006 was just a restaurant owner. So of coure he's more valuable than 006 since they're hunted by a military.
Jiali Khan I'm TANG
I want to read this, whats the book called?
They'll draw themselves that way too, if the character is ugly or old. Only the pretty characters are that "Stateless" bullshit.
Remember when Revy actually looked Chinese?
>every time
most of the time Chinese are just drawn the same way as the rest of the characters, which is true for every example in this thread.
She's only half-chinese so she shouldn't look full chink.
>half
She's full Chinese. She's just born in America.
She really shoulda stayed that way.
Even the half-chink in Ommagommy has squinty eyes; being half is no excuse for not possessing the stereotypical phenotype.
She looks like a typical anime character but with a more realistic eye size.
It's not fair, why do Chinese get more representation than South Korea?
>twintails
>worst girl
Twintails are automatically the best girls
006 has his moments, and he works along GB as comedy relief.
I haven't finished reading the manga but honestly i think 002 and 005 are not used as much as they could be used.
I think it's one of Anthony Bourdain's books, not sure which though.
Because nips hate gooks more than chinks. They actually like chinks and their culture is influence from chinks but wars happened.
name one thing that would distinguish a korean character from a japanese or chinese character
Basically all the anime turned 002 into the secondary protagonist alongside Joe.
their name
Actual circles instead of all these 口 bullshit
Chinese culture influenced Japan heavily.
Japan and China influenced Korea heavily.
C*reans are just butthurt about the fact that they were the bottom bitch of East Asia for a few thousand years.
...
>Revy
That's always bothered me because Reby is not the shorthand for Rebecca. That's Becky.
>Becky is the shorthand for Rebecca
w-what?
The Chinese stereotype is simple of goofy.
Yes user, Becky is short for Rebecca and has been that way for centuries. That or Becker.
Actually according to Revy is valid, but 99% of Rebeccas I know just went by Becky.
002 design fit the secondary protagonist after the MC, however i believe 004 has that spot most of the time in the manga.
It's more that 002 was way more popular. His design is so iconic that there's a bunch of characters in anime that are tributes to his nose and haircut.

>How are the Chinese portrayed in Japanese media compared to the Kankokus?
Poorly. Take this guy for example. He's literally a retard because he hit his head too hard as a baby. Also an illegal migrant. A violent baka who only thinks about fighting. Knocked up a woman and then bailed on her without paying child support. Then took her kid from her. Then came back only to knock her up only to bail on her again. Gets everyone he loves killed because he went to fight a turf war against some gangster's turf and they came back to shoot him and destroy his home as retribution.
subhuman monkey tier / 10
Korean sounds like shit too.
Especially their names.
>red hair
Why do the japanese do this?
Whoa, Zelda looks so cool in that pic!
How is the average gook name worse than the average nip name? What about chinks?
Is Goku chinese? I know early dragonball has chinese influences but he's an alien. I would guess characters like Roshi, Yumcha and Tien are chinese.
>Aliens, user
>the Chinese slut
He's saiyan in blood but chinese in nationality.
i mean his grandfather is chinese. his original fighting style is chinese. he's based off a chinese story character who also had a stick and a tail called son goku. his favorite food is all chinese stuff like rice bowls, ramen, gyoza, chazu, etc.
I forgot FMA. FMA had decent Chinese characters I guess. Or Xing but that's basically FMA China. Not exactly good or bad, but out for their own interests.
WWII stories about Japanese soldiers raping Korean women just aren't that popular
...
Yang Wenli is a pretty cool character
>They actually like chinks
>liking red imperialist kleptocrats
Don't know about mainland Chinese, but Hong Kong Chinese are badasses
Better than burgers, which is their white counterparts and mostly depicted as loser braggarts when their nationality is mentioned.
Hong Kong has Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, which is what inspires 99% of chinks in anime and basically any other medium by non-chinks.
WE WUZ TANGS N CHINKS
Agreed; I have to give them credit for making a concerted effort to resist Beijing's rampant assholism.
It's Becca here
Fang Fang was cool, and Touho Fuhai was awesome.
Found the chink. Project harder, little chin-chin.
By that logic Taiwan must be fucking badass for you
Chinese be like ( this )
Koreans be like < this >
Exhibit A.
>I'll just sit here until japan gives up
Exhibit B.
>M-maybe if I stare really hard at the map, they won't attack a non combatant?
Because they know the chinese have been thoroughly conquered and raped throughout their history by Central Asian steppe people, and I presume Japs do it to mock the Chinese (just like they call the chinese "Chankoro" - slaves of Qing)
"Persian historian Rashid al-Din recorded in his "Chronicles" that the legendary "glittering" ancestor of Genghis was tall, long-bearded, red-haired, and green-eyed. Rashid al-Din also described the first meeting of Genghis and Kublai Khan, when Genghis was shocked to find that Kublai had not inherited his red hair.[8] Also according to al-Din Genghis's Borjigid clan, had a legend involving their origins: it began as the result of an affair between Alan-ko and a stranger to her land, a glittering man who happened to have red hair and bluish-green eyes"
again, Kagura's an alien, a Yato, and not Chinese except maybe for aesthetics
also Gintama is set during the Edo-period and the Cheongsam was invented around 1910
Not him but you can't use that excuse for the Chinese, see Guan Yu. Guy's entire image is silky long beard with red face, riding red hare, and his Guan Dao. Yet anyone with any level of google-fu can tell you Guan Dao was a weapon invented hundreds of years later and was merely a product of the writer of Romance of 3 Kingdoms.
That doesn't change a damn thing about how almost every statue of Guan Yu as a deity with a weapon has him with his Guan Dao.
After the Battle of Guningtou, yeah, I'd say they're badass enough.
Korean*
Actually, for a country that's had such a bad blood with Japan, Chinese people and cultures are actually portrayed quite favourably.
I mean compared to the Americans at least.
so, um, how many redhaired Chinese have you ever seen?
It's because the Japanese realize that no matter how much they hate them, in the end, they cant move away from China and just tuck their island under their arms and move it to Hawaii.
China is here to stay - historically, this is even more evident after being conquered and carved up so many times, but still returning to power one way or another.
Better make sure that you have OK working relations with them.
I was referring to your statement about the Cheonsam. Kagura isn't Chinese.
Literally everyone.
Chinese hair usually is quite brownish/reddish and less black.
Source, me.
>Chinese people and cultures are actually portrayed quite favourably.
Well because Japan is has been influenced by China for centuries. They would be insulting themselves if they shit on Chinks and their culture. Any blood blood these days is over current mainland and WWII than the ancient times.
This wouldn't be such a problem if corporatists would quit selling out to them.
Chinese is probably the best representative non-Japanese nationality in anime cultures. Japanese really jerk off to their culture and history.
China is essentially their Rome, so they like all the older stuff like the Journey to the West.
Also, Japan doesn't really hate the rest of Asia, Corea excepted, the rest of Asia hates Japan.
China at least has its own culture. Despite how much it deteriorated from the gubberment over time and whatnot.
from the ones ive seen its common to be portrayed as a rival character who has slight overconfidence and complicated family ties. sometimes abit spoiled by family money as well.
so pretty neutral compared to kankokus
youtube.com
Best boy in this series happened to be Chinese
I am Japanese and this is simply untrue. If you're Chinese nips hate you pig. Good luck finding a job with chink eyes bitch
Kusuriya no hitorigoto has very good looking chinks
