That's a simplistic reading. It's not about how you should avoid war at all costs - the apology of the ghost soldier was for not fighting well enough to protect the world for later generations. War is presented one of a host of terrible things that should be avoided, but the show was based around having hope in an actively hostile world.

No. It started out as a show about faith and then it took a hard turn towards existentialist views on meaning of life and I started losing interest. It eventually ended up being generic "war is bad just everyone get along" schlock towards the end because A1 Pictures is completely incompetent when it comes to making a show with a single vision in mind.

I finally got to try some calvados in Canada at a bar. It was good, even though I don't usually drink liquor. Still need to find some here in the states though.

There's one episode where Filicia kind of ends her backstory with "The upside to there being no meaning in anything is that you can make your own" and it felt really out of place with all the christian imagery

Eh, maybe chalk that up to her being traumatized. The theme of the show was very arguably grace, that there is a transcendental power that can save us when we're manifestly not good enough or strong enough or brave enough. It was jarring when she said that, though, now that you mention it.
