Uh... most of the people watching the Pokemon anime are kids, user. For most of 'em this is their first or second exposure to a Pokemon show, that's what 'generations' means.

I pretty much stopped consistently watching it after the Johto Leagues, but I watch the gym battles and league stuff every now and then and have watched some of the movies (They get pretty bad and samey after Hoenn).

The Pokémon anime is for 6 year olds, they're not expecting nor want neckbeards to follow the show for 20 odd years.
