So, I'm rewatching Key the Metal Idol.

This has basically been my first "Serious" anime. I think even before Cowboy Bebop, 15 years ago I believe.
This was the one that made me wanna watch more anime! OP still gives me goosebumps.

Let's talk about it. Anybody here watch it? Thoughts?

...

Hahaha.
Watching this the first time-- I thought "What the hell? They're allowed to show tits on cartoons? What's going on!"

Oh, to be young and innocent...

This is just pretentious crap.

How so?

Oh man, I just started watching this. Looking back on it there was a lot of anime with androids/humanoid robots back in the 90's.

Uh - Catgirl Nuku Nuku?

Saber Marionette, Bubblegum Crisis (though this one had robot suits), the original Sailor Moon manga, Dragon Ball, etc.

I'm sure there's more pre-90's as well.

The dub for this is pretty good.

Is she autistic or what?

From what I remember from 15 years ago, she got pumped full of psyco-robot-powering-gel and that made her kinda go autistic. Her super sayian form is being a normal human bean

Few series give as much 90s nostalgia as this one.

No, it's not. Too many of the VAs sound goofy.

Steel Angel Kurumi
Cyber Team in Akihabara (sorta)
Battle Angel Alita
Chobits
Hand Maid Mai

Yeah, for some reason we were crazy for robot chicks back then.

Key was one of the series that started the 2deep4u serious anime trend in the late 90s to early 00s.
But historical importance aside, the writing is really fucking uneven. Episode 14 should not have been necessary.

One thing that is still pretty much unique to Key are prototype robots that actually behave like early prototypes, with bugs and control issues.

>OP still gives me goosebumps.
You mean the ED.
It gets plain tragic when you realize it's sung by Sakura's VA, in both original and dub.

The dub itself is pretty mediocre, but translated OP and ED are basically flawless.

I got to two episodes before the end and then stopped cause I thought it was 24 episodes, If I would have known it was shorter I probably would have finished it, now I'm not sure where it is on my hard drives.

sorry, I lied

Rei clone

That's what makes me the most interested in it. Is it the first rei clone character in anime?

Key came out a year before Eva aired.

Rei clone is a character archetype.

>Normal
as normal as a girl with inherited psychokinetic powers can be, I guess
