You don't seem to understand.

Ah, I get it now...

The ol' switcheroo

Probably because it's comfy as fuck you dork.

Because if she took them off it would probably be extremely painful.

She's a big gal

I always thought of Lain as cute but this confuses my dick...

If you took them off, you'd probably go to jail.

No. Lain is not for the lewdings.

Cute is sexy

why does it feel so wrong

youtube.com/watch?v=seY60DVlynU

She's more daughter material than anything.

...

Lain is for headpats.
Lain is for cuddles and burying your face in her hair.
Lain is for nose-kisses that make her blush.
Lain is for taking to fields of sunflowers and having delicious picnics.
Lain is for holding hands while walking through cemeteries in the rain, and finding a hidden spot to kiss.
Lain is for dressing in adorable velvet dresses and ribbons, and showing off at dinner parties.
Lain is for sitting by the fire with, eating hot cross buns she has just finished baking, with your children happily playing nearby.

I WANT TO UPLOAD MY GHOST INTO THE VAST AND INFINITE NET WITH MY PAL, LAIN

What the fuck, user, that's no way to treat your daughteru

She's my daughterpetwife.

I was rewatching SEL a couple days ago and I couldn't stop noticing how fucking cute Lain is.

>taking a rewatch to notice this

That much is true.

A person shouldn't find the goddess they worship cute, but beautiful (which she's both).

Just don't be a weirdo about it

...

Rude

I bet this blokes setup could do a better job.

I'll give YOU the dicke, faggot

...

Attachment is a powerful thing, even if it's to such mundane things as your favourite pajamas.

Because Lain is the best.

To be fair, that pajama looks COMFY AS FUCK.

Good, I'm not worth for that.

...

Lain is a stinky nerd.

Watched it a few days ago and found it quite lacking, atmosphere was god tier tho.

Well Imma be real with you, it's fucking weird. And definitely too convoluted and lost in metaphors to really 'get' on your first viewing. Once you have all the pieces, you gotta watch it again. And then maybe one more time later on, to catch the details you missed.
It's entirely fair that some people don't want to invest so much time into such an.. unexciting show.

Although to help you, the diaries exist. They give quite a lot of characterisation to Lain, whereas the show has almost none. laingame.net/
Psyche evaluations, personal entries, conversations, other people's statements. There's plenty to flip through, like I said, a lot of characterisation.
Most of it can be thought of as a prequel, with the very end being an alternate timeline. (you may know how the PS1 game ended)

And another hint from me personally, try to keep track of this: Lain has three distinct personalities in the concept art. I can't speak moonrunes, so I call them 'innocent', 'confident' and 'wired'. Each has distinctly different body language, expressions, mannerisms, preferred clothing and places they usually hang around at.
Pic related, wish I had this earlier.

Yeah i caught on to that triple personality on the last third or something, i guess you've watched it multiple times, what exactly did you notice on your second time that you didn't on your first? I can't really think of anything i might have missed/not understood but i guess that's just because it's the first time i watched it.

Well yeah, that's what I mean.
Once you know what to look out for and what to expect, you'll notice the subtleties and foreshadowing that you didn't even see before.

Kinda applies to the diaries, too. They're a good read. At some point I wondered, how come Lain's inbox is spammed with gore and other gross shit? Where could this innocent person that's too pure to even get why there's porn pictures online, hang around at?
Well, that's probably the Wired personality's doing, the well known shitposter and creepy weirdo.
Pic related, the face of the Wired Lain, the person that takes glee in people's suffering, blackmails people and abuses her newfound godlike powers for things like watching her classmate masturbate in their own bedroom.

Thank you

LAIN?

Lain is for surprise kissing, forcing your tongue into her mouth and giving her your chewing gum.

They work for the deity.
The pajamaed man.

YOUUUUU

...

...

I don't see a bear suit, I see a bare suit

>Lain's inbox is spammed with gore and other gross shit
Wait, when the hell did this happen?

Diaries, diaries. I even prefaced with that.

...

I actually made this
Do you rike it?

it's decent

my b

It makes me uncomfortable, but I commend the effort

does anyone have that image of lain with kusanagi

Aw cheers, my dudes. Here's an earlier version. Too lazy to transfer the added buttons and improved hair lock onto it.
Also made one of Yuki, if anyone wants it.

This first one that came up upon searching "lain kusanagi" in google images?

...

thanks. not sure why my baby brains didn't just google it before posting

>Pic related, the face of the Wired Lain

Nope, that's a Knights fake. There is only one Lain.

is this canon or just a theory? i don't remember anything like that

Not him, but the first time I watched Lain I didn't pick up on how the weird dream-like sequences where Lain is talking to disembodied voices were supposed to represent her talking to other people over the Wired. Those made a lot more sense the second time through.

It's definitely canon, the fake Lain is the one who spreads the rumor about Arisu fucking the teacher. The real Lain is the one who undoes that by resetting everything.

It's complicated because the real Lain also appears as two people representing the way she acts on the Wired and the way she acts IRL.

Was pretty obvious to me. The Knights are messing with Lain so she will submit to Eiri or become so miserable she kills herself to willingly connect with everybody. Wired Lain is the kind of sassy Lain that is shown to literally come out of her as a different personality when the wired is merging with the real, not Smug Peeping Tom Lain, who shows up as a totally different entity to ruin Lain's relationship with Alice. That concept art is just the three ways of drawing Lain as she appears. It doesn't mean that she is all three in universe.

'innocent' Lain' is for protecting
'confident' Lain is for following and obeying
'Wired' Lain is for angry pelvis-breaking sex as you stream the two of you breeding not only on the Wired, but all over the planet as everyone watches a giant naked Lain moaning and gasping in the clouds.

Oh yeah, I forgot that was a thing. But considering the 'realness' of the OG Lain in the first place, I guess you could still call that one a Lain too. It's just that Wired one is a separate entity and consciousness from the first two.

At the end of the show, what the hell was with the other Lain pausing and glitching out? Was it Lain's way of denying her other self and making only the innocent, human Lain the only real Lain?

>weird dream-like sequences where Lain is talking to disembodied voices
Do those include the sequences where she talks to the doll, mask and mother/father in her room? I've watched the anime thrice and i still don't understand this single part.

Wired Lain is for mindbreaking and reconditioning through genuine pure love and affection, you dipshit.

I don't believe they are separate. Wired Lain is just a more confident personality of the One Lain. Notice it only comes out when the wired starts to merge. I believe it to be a reference to an introvert being more confident when chatting on the internet.

Peeping Tom however, is a totally separate thing because it isn't Lain, it's a Knights "hologram" if you will. Just like the fake Lain image they used to lead the Knights wannabe to the ditch where they kill him.

That was just an inner dialogue. She glitched out because Lain couldn't accept what was happening.

I think those are just artful representations of Lain being contacted by Eiri through dreams or hallucinations. I might have to rewatch to confirm.

Yeah, the "wired" side of Lain wanted to stay detached from the real world and become a god, but the "IRL" side of Lain was lonely and wanted to return. The IRL side wins out and the other personality disappears.

I didn't really get that part either, but I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be the Knights trying to influence her by appearing as her parents.

how did the knights know about lain? do they work directly for eiri? fuck, maybe it's time to rewatch sel

I haven't seen Lain but scrolled all the way down to ask how good this show is

>Yeah, the "wired" side of Lain wanted to stay detached from the real world and become a god, but the "IRL" side of Lain was lonely and wanted to return. The IRL side wins out and the other personality disappears.
so human lain survives, but she is removed from the world/history anyways? what the fuck happened at the end

The Knights were sort of working for Eiri in that they shared his transhumanist ideology. They knew about Lain because Eiri's the one who gave her a human body. Lain's important because she can break the barrier and cause everybody to Tang and melt together forever into a single consciousness.

i don't think i have the brain for this show. is there like some in-depth blog post or video explanation to spoon feed me?

It's good

I don't believe what that person says about two conscious Lains with conflicting ideals. I think all of that was an inner dialogue Lain was having with herself. In the end, she removes herself from history in the sense that Eiri never found her and made her human, but she still "exists".

>what the fuck happened at the end
Eiri tries creating a body in the real world, but Lain 'murders' him to protect Arisu. Arisu at this point is fucking hysterical because a mound of flesh and bone was forming right in front of her and a bunch of computer parts were somehow flung at it, crushing and burying it in the process. The fact they're both covered in blood doesn't help either. To help Arisu, she erases not only that day, but her own existence, essentially rewriting reality (since no one really died, including Eiri) where Lain's family is a real family, Eiri never gets the idea to become God, and Karl and his faggot friend are separated from what involved them with Tachibana Labs and all that shit to begin with.

>in the sense that Eiri never found her
lain existed without eiri?
what is the lore of eiri? he made lain/god, so what made him? does his death have any consequences on their world?

>lain existed without eiri?

That's what I believe yes. She can be one of two things: software Eiri created to connect humanity that he gave a body, or something that already existed that has some sort of inherent tie to humanity and the universe that he found in the wired while working at Tachibana. Not necessarily a God, but something natural that wasn't sentient until Eiri gave her a body.

>so what made him?
Mr. and Mrs. Eiri, obviously.

>does his death have any consequences on their world?
The loss of a physical body loses all meaning when one realizes the consciousness can live without it on the Wired. Him "killing" himself proved this and is what allowed him to put all of his being on the Wired. The ghosts of the girls who killed themselves show this in that instead of being body parts, they're now shadows. Given enough time, they'd probably be able to gain their whole bodies back on the Wired as well, becoming "gods" in the same way Eiri had.

>I don't believe what that person says about two conscious Lains with conflicting ideals. I think all of that was an inner dialogue Lain was having with herself
That's what I was trying to say too. Wired Lain and IRL Lain aren't multiple personalities, just representations of how a single individual acts in different circumstances.

It's good, but kind of boring. Talking about it is the fun part.

Eiri was just an ordinary man who took advantage of the Schumann resonances and the Wired to preserve his consciousness after his death. There's nothing special about him, that's what Lain reveals to him in the end and what makes him go berserk.

>Eiri was just an ordinary man who took advantage of the Schumann resonances and the Wired to preserve his consciousness after his death.
so he single-handedly created the wired? or his essence just manifested itself there? and just to confirm, you are of the stance that there is only one lain with multiple personalities, correct?

>so he single-handedly created the wired?
No
>or his essence just manifested itself there?
Yes
>you are of the stance that there is only one lain with multiple personalities, correct?
Yes, but it's more like how a person can act one way online and be totally different in the real world. She doesn't have separate entities living in her head or anything.

Wired Lain is very much a separate identity. Both of you are wrong. The other shit is an example of what Lain is, i.e an entity defined by others. People perceive Lain differently and as such Lain is formed by this often conflicting mass of understanding, at least once she's ascended.
Human Lain is using Wired Lain as a foil to cope with all the incoming information and confusion that ascension involves.
