Hunter x Hunter

These 30 chapters of build-up have been better than entire 250-chapter manga. Dear God, it’s crazy to think that this is running on a magazine aimed at 14 year olds. Togashi’s writing, his complicated and nuanced build-up to this insane boat trip makes all the other serializations look like an embarrassment. But enough dick-sucking, let’s talk about Kurapika.

Those are the eyes of a man who was just told that a baby was entered into a battle to the death. He probably sees a connection to himself and that baby’s situation, where both were lined up for slaughter because of their linage. So how will things end for Kurapika?

>enough dick sucking, let's talk about the most boring character ever.
GET off my board.

Impregnating Oito

hunter fans truly are the ricky and morty fans of anime

I like how Hunter gets called Rick and Morty when Level E exists

salty jaun piss fags that haven't been able to afford a new pair of flip-flops in 8 years are getting too uppity

Only low IQ monkeys find Kurapika boring

the writing is very subtle, the average person wouldn't be able to appreciate it

You wouldn't even grasp the subtlies of rick and morty a superior show in every way.

hopefully kurapika ends up banging that milf

O MY FILLER NEN

I know you faggots like to false flag but it's true, unless you have a lot of experience watching anime and shonen then the nuances of hxh and kurapika in particular will probably be lost on you

are 9mm that powerful?

Shot placement.

>experience watching low key plots and bullshit powers.
Get over yourselves.

I only posted about Kurapika and I wasn't joking, it's always unintelligent people who make vapid complaints about his character.

Stopped reading after the part with the bugs and the nuke, is it worth it to start reading it again?

If you didnt understand purpose of the nuke then no, you should just drop it.

obsessed

Key word is "fully" here. Anything more than light bruises would be totally inkonsistent with the established protective power of average ko / gyo. I think the issue with 9mm is that they can penetrate ten and Kurapika takes note of all possible threats.

Wasn't it to kill the king bug guy? And the old guy had to sew it inside of himself to trick him? They're both dead anyway, so I don't see how it would impact the plot further on unless they come back to life or something?

There hasn't been any high stakes fight since Ants other than ChrollovHisoka so if you read mostly for the fights which were abundant in Ants you'll probably be bored. If you enjoyed the slow building tension and character development of York New you should continue.

There were barely any fights

Unless you count like Morel vs Cheethu where they aren't even moving or Gon murdering Pitou as a "fight"

Based Gon.

didtn uvo tank a rocket launcher

but he was a fucking beast tho

He was an exception not the rule

>there were barely any fights

Huh? Nearly every chapter involved characters trying to kill each other (often times successfully) both during NGL and East Gorteau. Even the shoved in training mini-arc had three fights: Knuckle vs Gon, Shoot vs Killua and Killua vs Bunny ant...

Try reading an actual book

Strongest known enhancer unless you count Netero and Beyond who are sometimes claimed to be enhancers but were never confirmed and should clearly be emitters based on Hisoka's chart.

O MY DOLPHIN

>Traits arbitrarily decided by Hisoka

Uvo was a freak of nature

somebody remind me how many years of lifespan pika lost

Uvo was an enhancer by nature and one that had raised his proficiency and aura level to the point where he could do that.

Kurapika is a conjurer so his ability to reinforce his body is lower than that so it's possible that for him 9mm is actually a threat when it comes to blocking with Gyo.

I just want more Gong and Killua or Ging and What's his face

I just finished Kokoro. Soseki has a great way of showing thought processes though his prose does seem a bit dull at times. Planning on reading something by Kawabata Yasunari or Mishima next and then try something contemporary.
Not liking comics is fine but comparing them to classic literature is not fair since they're radically different media. Different media need different artisitc approaches, just ask Alan Moore, he wrote both Watchmen (the comic) and Jerusalem which is an ""actual book"", whatever that is.

That's just a convenient disclaimer by Togashi so he can deviate from the formula every once in a while (Pito being such an instance). But with 9/10 characters whose hatsu we know this chart works perfectly.
I have to really congratulate Togashi for his foresight, most shounen would have just introduced something like that as a rule which would later have to be retconned with a long running time - both Naruto and Bleach which started at around the same time in WSJ did this several times but Togashi still very much consistant (granted his chapter count is only half that of his competitors)

Jesus.

Who do you want to win the Succession Crisis?
I abstain from voting because of a broken heart.

math on this ?

O MY NITRO RICE

If he lost 20 years then why doesn't he look 20 years older? Does the power not actually age him?

Because that would lose fujo readership

Is there a non meme answer because im trying to figure out how a power can age someone by 20 yeara without actually physically changing them and I can't

,,
it has always been the case that what you wagered could be entirely hypothetical. Nen doesn't make sense in a physical world, obviously, but it is consistent; you can wager the future without affecting the now. Similarly, repeating the wager doesn't necessarily compound it, or change it in anyway.

People are getting confused because of Gon's wager, which was clearly everything he could think of something that can be summarized with the following three points:
1) His ability to use Nen
2) The entirety of his future's aptitude/potential compounded by, (manifest in his present body)
3) His present's discipline and willpower (manifest in what looked like total misery and anguish for the rest of his natural life; his Sisyphean burden in place of what would have been a lifetime of training)

He's been able to remove the later two, but the first hasn't been removed because he's being used as a plot device

I didn't finish my point; you wager 20 years of your life and there's no necessity it will ever be collected upon - you can die before then.

He did not wager his current aptitude.

So how does that work? Will Kurapika just one day die? Is it like a spell on him constantly that somehow knows when he would normally die? Or does it have to do with his soul or something?

It was only 5

Well, in the hxh universe life energy exists - this is the Aura. Once it runs out, you die. Conversly, if you shroud your body in Aura (zetsu), you can prolong your life.
The way I interpret it, Kurapika's hatsu "erases" some of his inner aura which is equivalent to x amount of years. Basically, whenever he uses his hatsu Kurapika burns this fuel much more rapidly and once it runs out he will just drop dead. So as of now, while his body may have lasted until 80, he won't have fuel left at 60 and die. If he continues his hatsu for several days non stop he'll die without ever getting a grey hair or a wrinkle.

Oh okay. Makes sense but sounds overpowered. Like if someone was about to die why wouldn't they use their life force as a fuel to try and survive?

Depends on the circumstances. First of all, you can't just manifest any power you like. Gon could only become super powerful because he was an enhancer type.
If you had terminal cancer and knew nen that wouldn't neccessarily help you because you'd need a very specific ability to heal yourself - something like Pito's Dr. Blythe or Leorio's sonar punch. You can increase power with restrictions but if your hatsu just happened to be, say, Morel's deep purple, what good would it be for an illness?
Furthermore, if you're dying that means you're probably low on Aura anyways and can't do much. If your body is destroyed before your remaining aura is used up, it will attach istself to the last target of your intent or the biggest chunk of your aura on the globe. This kind of "aura curse" can be very powerful but it only worked to revive Hisoka because only his body was damged very specifically while his Aura was still healthy.

togashi, where my nigga ging

i'd assume he'll die much earlier than he should have. The last years of his life are being annexed, not wagered like a normal contract; years of your life is also a subjective thing. If you expand yourself with a massive breakthrough - like Netero did - and better connect your mind and body then you may achieve a longer life span, and a stronger body and will. We may later find out there is some corollary (genetic) to the kurta clan
yeah what's the math on this? The pacing doesn't have it set - yet - to be an enormous unveil (for us plebs who don't do the math)

You have to remember that emperor time isn't overpowered by itself, nor does it grant additional power. An individual is limited by their native rolled traits' manifestation of nen, and this caps how effectively they can 'convert/will/focus' nen into particular tools. It was a cool idea from the start, but consider those who need to train manipulator as a secondary power - it will almost always be useless when compared to the raw power and the flexibility of training 'enhancer' as a secondary.

Togashi is poetic and I think the ant-saga really dragged his best creativity. Reread the scene where Welfin has to answer the king; your life force and aura is clearly manifested by your emotions and the cognition of your emotions in both positive and negative ways. Similarly, aging affects the output of the body, but does not seem to change the alacrity of your will (maybe your body) as I don't remember Netero complaining about being slower, only weaker.

what nen category do you prefer /hxh/?
enhancer is the best imo, yet obviously the most boring, because it combines great defence with great attack. its simple and you dont need to think that much for a fight
controller and transmutation are the weakest but the most interesting ones

I'd prefer being a manipulator, for obvious reasons. Fits my character most accurately too transmutation sounds great too. But really, I'd be perfectly fine with basic nen even without a fancy hatsu. Imagine what you could do with gyo, ten and en alone...

Using Emperor Time for 1 second cost 1 hour off his lifespan, he had it on for 12 hours
12*60=720
720*60=43200
that's how many seconds he had it on and how many hours he lost
43200/24=1800 days
1800/365=4.932 years

he used it on the past too

Thanks, calculator user.

I don't remember him using it for any significant length of time

uvogin vs kurapika
that fight was at least 2 min long, since kurapika was bragging and took his time to defeat uvo

that still doesn't come anywhere close to 20 years

oh well, is not a significant lenght of time anyways. ignore that

In which you can scrap 80% of all speech bubbles and have missed nothing of value.

(not true by the way)

I feel like he used it a lot more in yorkshin than we know

why else did he get bed-ridden sick at the end of it

did he catch a cold or what

well, he used emperors time with chrollo and pakunoda, keeping chrollo under the zetsu chain for an unknown time while gon and killua were rescued

Sorry I went a little hyperbole here, after really counting it you'd be closer to 60% I guess.
