A little backstory about the commemoration day of Latvian legionnaires, and the furor that usually follows:
Legonnaires day became infamous only in 1998, when a Swedish national news agency proclaimed that this signals "the rebirth of Fascism in Latvia" Russian media started to pick this up only a year later. And next it was our very govt. that started to alienate the legonnaires and cease supporting them (they used to partake in the ceremony too) ever since "the international community" told them to stop. They have effectively ceased all support towards the veterans. There even was an idea to make this a national holiday - a day off, but this got rejected all because Swedish, and later Russian cries of racism and fascism. Now the only people to officially support and organize are our nationalist party, while the (still) leading Russian/liberal party constantly calls for a ban of this commemoration, all while fervently celebrating the 9th of May - "liberation day" as they call it.
This is not a celebration of "Fascism/Nazism & racism" contrary to what many of the western and most Russian media are surely churning out right now, but a commemoration day of Latvian legionnaires, forest brothers and other anti-bolshevik fighters.
Here is a fresh article about this. Notice how the very first comment is from an anglophone named "REAL HISTORY" even when the site is very small and in Latvian only. Note how the very first thing they do is point out what happens to those whom the self proclaimed victims judge to be in the wrong.
Not once that I have been on Sup Forums have I seen anyone show any interest in this event.

The timewindow was significantly shorter than last year, maybe has something to do with there being ceremonies in even more cities this year. The disappointment in saeima is real. First they deny this being a national holiday, and now it is not even a commemoration day. They are spitting on the memory of those who fought for this country. I have to phonefag now. His memoirs were published as a book called “Onward Christian Soldiers”. If you search for the title with his name, tou can find a pdf. I believe he was writing about the initial annexation in 1939.
same thing happened in Romania when the soviets advanced in Moldova after the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact was initiated. My grandpa's war memoirs and several other books written about the subject clearly depict how the jews were waiting for the soviet advance with red flags waiving, while the Romanian army was retreating on the new designated front lines, covering the Romanian refugees that had to relocate from their homes in fears that the Russians will kill them.
In Odessa, for example, my grandpa clearly states that most of the native population welcomed the Wehrmacht and the Romanian 1st Army, except the kikes, who barricaded themselves in several houses and who were firing upon the advancing armies (basically acting as partisans, which under the war conventions at that time meant that the Wehrmacht and the Romanian Army had to do reprisals on the local population). They were basically provoking them to attack the native population in order to create a state of chaos.
