This is Trumps fault for not taking the media serious enough. He should have come out on day 1 and mandated anti-propaganda laws from the media, to congress. And when they inevitably failed, responded with an even more serious law via executive order.
This order would require any organization or individual that wishes to classify themselves as "media" to uphold strict standards of reporting. On the pretense that they are doing a public service and should be held to the highest standard of ethics. They would, of course be free to classify themselves as "entertainment" or "opinion journalist" or some other similar title, if they seek to get around the following mandates.
Ideas for the mandate:
1) Reporting/Opinion ratio must be at least 80% reporting news to 20% opinion of the news.
2) Must present both sides in an honest and fair light, giving each equal amount of airtime without opinions added on.
3) Lies, misquotes and chopped up interviews or any other sign of deliberate mis-representation of the facts, would result in immediate loss of license for that individual, a 1M dollar fine charged to the company and a 10 year prison sentence charged to the CEO of the company.
4) Reporting of "anonymous sources", or speculations or anything of the like is classified as "opinion" and counts towards the 20%. The definition of "News" would be; This happened, in this location, at this time.
Of course this would all have be written in legalize, but this would be the general idea. Thoughts?
