Mainer here. I grew up with this stuff and am dumbfounded when people gave this reaction. Brown bread is awesome, from a can, even better if you make it yourself. God tier toasted and buttered.
Not spicy. Dense and filling. Like a pumpernickel. Made with equal parts flour, rye or buckwheat flour, and corn meal. Molasses, brown sugar and some buttermilk. Optionally add raisins. Boil/steam in an empty bean can to get a chewy crust, then bake to cook the interior.
