Is it me or are these "education" channels completely useless?
Is this how we solve the problem of shortening attention spans and social media addiction -- by cramming facts in a fast-paced animated video?
What can you learn in a 10 minute video, which covers huge topics, other than trivial superficialities? Imagine thinking that you actually know shit about Western Philosophy because you watched School of Life, or that you're now educated in World History because you saw the whole Crash Course.
Not only that, but these videos reek of propaganda. Anything involving the Green brothers exists only for their SJW agendas (if you want to laugh, go watch his interpretation of The Odyssey), while everyone else subtly injects anti-White, pro-Marxist message here and there.
Those are actually long form and only cover narrow topics.
I wouldn't even class them as "edutainment" or whatever, they're literally just nicely animated short lectures.
Anthony Taylor
Brainless zombie bug men glued to their techno gears and gizmos. They think the future is some fashy robo-hipster geeky utopia where us nerds rule Xdd but they are all soulless depressed losers who could benefit from some sunlight and exercise.
Connor Anderson
the Vsauce guy is fine really he doesn't take himself as seriously as the others which is pretty nice
Ian Hughes
I want to get into reading more Philosophy, but don't know where to start. any recommendations?
I'd start with the classics themselves. you can get them for free in your preferred format on harvard.edu.
Chase Perez
just from looking at them I can tell they hate white people
Jayden Thomas
LMAO This really. No shortcut is a true substitute
Parker Turner
Yeah it's bugman shit.
Alain de Botton's voice sounds really precious
Caleb Ward
Classic Soy boy love. Simply explained grand topics that you can forget about 1 minutes later. Get a brief dopamine hit at the time.
Connor Morgan
Vsauce is a redpilled NatSoc guy. He is the only decent one of the ''science'' channels.
Adrian Thomas
He is Soy Prime
Cooper Young
Pls stop I'm tired xD
Kevin Perez
Literally start with the Greeks. Plato and Aristotle.
Isaiah Reyes
They're entertainers more than they are "educators", they want to make and hold an audience so that they can keep making thousands of dollars
Jaxon Torres
Maybe their job is to raise interest in the subjects they talk about rather than going on 3hr long rant about one certain subject. You can find those videos elsewhere.
Jack Thompson
I'll post a serious reply because you will probably get meme'd to fuck here.
For reference, I'm doing a masters in philosophy right now and I never had any formal training, I'm completely self-taught and managed to get admitted.
Don't listen to anyone that dumps a long ass list of dense texts from Kant or Hegel or whatever, those are probably great books but you'd be retarded to start with them. Even Nietzsche won't make any sense to you unless you're familiar with everything he's referencing.
First read some ancient Greek philosophy because everything stems from that, especially Plato. You could even get a textbook like Introduction to Greek Philosophy, but at least read some original texts (I'd recommend The Last Days of Socrates, by Plato -- easy read, probably the most influential philosophy book of all time).
Then you can pick depending on your interests. Did you find ethics/morality the most fascinating area? Or maybe the political aspects? Or the metaphysics? Each branch of philosophy takes a different path, but they're not all completely independent. Anyway pick one, and follow its history, reading the most important works (use Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, much better than Wikipedia).
Eventually you'll figure out how to navigate through philosophy. Also watch lectures, listen to podcasts, and read articles from philosophy blogs.
If you want to expedite all this, just read A History of Western Philosophy by Bertrand Russel
Julian Reed
Michael is a mad cunt who hangs out with idubzzz, the other 2 are faggots tho
I'm not against spreading interest but I'm sure you can guess 99% of the kids watching those videos aren't at the stage where they think "wow good video let me go learn more", they're more like "now I'm an expert because this video series markets itself as a comprehensive guide to..."
It's like people who watch TED talks and think they're enlightened.
Jason Cook
I had the attention span of a sloth as a child Kids grow out of certain behaviour Not every YT channel aimed at youngsters is about programming their psyche though
You seem like a person who you are describing, sorry to say.
Sebastian Ramirez
the Green brothers are actually soy goys michaels alright
Christian Morales
Even the science ones piss me off. Those videos are clearly made by people who have no interest in what they are studying.
There's a huge gap between what is a good teacher for someone who actually cares vs what's a good teacher for low IQ mutts who want to brag about having studied something. In one hand there are these virtue signaling nu-males that just spit out factoids that they have it written so they don't forget, vs real men who understand what is like to be interested in something and want to help others who are also interested to solidify their understatement.
Just the little nu-male jokes at every 10 seconds piss me the fuck off. Here's the thing: people who are not interested in studying will like it better with retarded jokes and quips; however, people that are not interested in studying will never learn anything and focusing on teaching them is pointless.
This is just a video to show what actual good education is like. You don't even need to be a medical student to learn complex medical material from this guy.
School of life os riddled with leftist propaganda. Every time they show a couple it's always s nigger male with a white woman, for example.
Jack Stewart
Exactly. If you're a teacher you should be thinking "how can I remove as much jargon as possible to make everyone understand this?" not "let's see how much I can name drop to show people how funny and smart I am"
Kevin Cook
VSauce is pretty much just nostalgia fuel for me. They haven't changed format since they started. They don't really do anything of any use but they are quite entertaining. Channels such as youtube.com/user/TheChemlife are made not nesecerily entirely to educate, but to inspire people and get their minds running with the potential possibilities and applications of projects. My personal favourite is youtu.be/Ds8ZFzOwGeI where he uses a store bought drink to create pseudo-leather. He isn't very politically educated, however but only has 1 political video so it shouldn't take away from the sum experience. Great channel. I'll be watching this.
Leo Hill
Yeah, I also like his lack of bitchiness. He's gold. Don't fuck with Michael.
Christopher Phillips
>School >Learn Pick one.
Faggots tell you they have actual evidence of something and then they just send you a Wikipedia link or tell you to Google it. Honestly, the world is fucked.
Jackson Rivera
Don't.
Instead of reading about the things that other men have thought about, try sitting in a dark quiet room and actually thinking about shit yourself.
Vsauce is a good boi, he stays politically neutral in his content, which is honestly hard to find these days. Mad respect to him.
Hunter Morales
Have you guys seen Kurzgesagt? Pure leftist propaganda >peaceful refugees >eu is good for you goy >BC/AD is racist, buy our new calendar goy >UBI for everyone >hedonism lol
Nathan Miller
hey man don't you shit on vsauce. his videos aren't full of left wing propaganda. just because his videos aren't in depth college tier videos doesn't mean they're useless. posing interesting ideas and getting the public interested in science is a good thing on its own.
School of life is good if you want to have a short introduction to a philosopher, they aren't videos made to teach you everything, of course if you want to understand a philosophies you need to go the source
Connor Price
If you haven't started to watch survival-videos you are not ready for the answer.
Angel Myers
>but I'm sure you can guess 99% of the kids watching those videos aren't at the stage where they think "wow good video let me go learn more", they're more like "now I'm an expert because this video series markets itself as a comprehensive guide to..." That's the viewer blame, if you are so stupid to watch a 3 minute video about plato and think yourself a genius then you are stupid not the guy making a a short introductory video
John White
There are plenty of great history channels like Kings and Generals, History time and Bazbattles.
Jayden Wright
They’re propaganda for science as a religion. People who don’t exercise critical thinking become indoctrinated.
Brody Fisher
>Lumping based CGP along aside hey guys vsauce here Fuck off.
Kayden Ward
Lol, yes he does. He gets so mad so easy. I stopped watching him a couple years ago because his meltdowns were unbearable.
Charles Reed
School of life is garbage, it's feel good nonsense that takes excerpts from prestigious sounding philosophers and inserts them into their videos. I mean its okay but there is misleading stuff all over it. There are a lot of other good philosophy channels on youtube.
Cooper Cox
Amerimutt Geography
Luis Wood
I don't remember a single thing I've ever watched from these channels. They are a waste of time.
They ask more questions than they answer.
Nolan Torres
As I said, it's good as introduction for somebody who doesn't know nothing to get themselves interested, if you want a correct study you need to do some research and study yourself but as a baby introduction it's not that bad
Nathan Watson
Stefan Molyneux has a great, non pozed, long form intro to philosophy series.
Juan Brooks
The problem is YouTube channels pander to the lowest common denominator. There are a few podcasts that can give good, brief-ish treatments of things. Smart Drug Smarts and Interesting Things Explained Well are good at telling you basically everything you'd want to know on whatever topic they're doing. Obviously you aren't going to learn marine biology in ten minutes, but you can learn all you'd want to know about Great White Sharks or whatever.
Jason Perez
they're all faggots but the trick is the people who watch them feel smarter even though they'll forget everything they heard in an hour or two
all those yt "education" fags all talk like they are talking to children like what NPR does
Ayden Lewis
>Is it me or are these "education" channels completely useless? Of course. If you think that a 10 minute video could give you any meaningful insight there is something wrong with you.
If you *actually* want to educate yourself, there are tons of complete lecture series available, watch them and take notes at the same time. Then you might actually learn something.
But as it stands, you shouldn't consider these chanells as anything more then "entertainment".
They won't tell you anything meaningful, read a book on mathematics if you are interested, but these videos won't teach you anything.
Charles Gomez
Is this actually real? I couldn't handle that cuck's videos for more than 30 seconds
Colton Bell
crusticroc
Julian Sanchez
it's entertainment not education
nowadays even proper education is mostly useless anyway, so that's that
David Cox
I seriously want to watch some non soy easy to understand series on mythology. I´d watch lectures but i´m usually wathching inforteinment just before i sleep so >20-30 min clips are somewhat out of the question. Any suggestions? Crash course mythology dude made me want to bash my head against a wall with his faggotry, so thats out of the question.
