even infants are of no more real moral value than any other unconscious animal. it is assumed future value that we project onto them, based on the assumption that they will grow a person. there is nothing inherently wrong with this practice, but it means we do have to recognize the arbitrary nature of any specific deadlines made for legal purposes.
