Not the only problem, but perhaps the most unrecognised of the big ones. Overpopulation is the biggest problem, combined with globalisation. Makes people realise how insignificant they are. It all comes down to value. If you were the village blacksmith hundreds of years ago, you were valued, you were important because you filled a role and losing you would cause problems for the village, for the community.
Look at us now. You're worthless. You do nothing of value, you can be easily replaced, thousands of people do the same as you every day, many of them better than you do. If you were lost no-one would even notice let alone care. You have no societal value, none of us do.
Entertainment exists to distract us from this harsh truth, but now it's saturated, and so the boredom problem comes in.... see it's a massive problem, but still only a part of the biggest problem...
